5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have, January 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Props for Pops (Audio CD)
If you like New Orleans jazz then you have to get this. It stays on permanent rotation on our cd player as well as his other cd. If you get the chance to see Leroy Jones live do so. He can often be found in New Orleans at Preservation Hall or on tour with Harry Connick Jr.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Joy on Trumpet and Vocals, July 25, 2009
By
Karl W. Nehring (Ostrander, OH USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Props for Pops (Audio CD)
This engagingly swinging CD is a tribute to legendary trumpeter Louis Armstrong, led by the young New Orleans trumpeter Leroy Jones. Featuring original compositions as well as Armstrong classics, this recording communicates clearly the musical tradition passed down from "Pops" to his musical descendants. Jones is a joy on both trumpet and vocals, never merely imitative of Armstrong, rather sounding confident of his own musical talent and appreciative of his musical heritage. By the way, if you like this recording, you might also want to pick up Leroy Jones's first Columbia CD, Mo' Cream from the Crop, which is just what its title says--tasty stuff!
