Makes you wonder why it's not sold everywhere...,
By mitzo1 "mitzo1" (Plano, TX) - See all my reviews Though it might not get the kind of enthusiastic endorsement reserved for the higher-end English made creams from the discerning wet shaver/hobbyist crowd (shave geeks), Proraso is a quantum leap in quality compared to the canned stuff on the drug store shelf. For the uninitiated, a tube of Proraso cream is an excellent first step in the journey toward a vastly improved shaving experience. Aside from the luxurious, cushioning lather one can make using a decent badger hair shaving brush (highly recommended), Proraso's strength is also its drawback. The cooling, tingling sensation of menthol and eucalyptus oil is a pleasurable experience for many, but harsh for those with highly sensitive skin (and noses). So be forewarned if you think you may fall into the latter category. Being in the former category, my experience with Proraso has been like a dream come true. Where Proraso really shines, though, is in the post shave; the moment after the last bit of lather has been rinsed away. A cold water rinse follow-up truly ramps up the invigorating pleasure of this cream...a bracing wake up call for those groggy, early morning shaves. I disagree with the reviewer that said this cream is too expensive. If used correctly (with a shave brush), a pea-sized amount is all that's needed to produce an abundant lather. Nevertheless, the benefits of this highly recommended product far outweigh its cost.

Incredible,
Without question the best shaving product in my experience. Used with plenty of hot water, a double edged razor, and a brush (up and down strokes are best) and you can expect the closest, most comfortable shave ever. The scent is manly but not macho, and is very light in any case after you wash it off, and you don't need to use aftershave either. Wonderful.
If you use a brush, make sure to get a good badger hair brush (expect to spend anywhere from twenty to forty dollars for a decent but inexpensive brush that will last a decade or more.) Make sure to also get a brush stand like the Nickel Shaving Brush Holder to keep water from seeping into the handle, which shortens the life of the brush.

One of my favorite shaving creams is this Proraso shaving cream. The 5.2 oz tube lasts a long time because you only need about 1/4 to 1/2" of the stuff to make a lot of rich, creamy and soothing lather. I let it sit on my beard for a minute or two before starting to shave and that gives the Eucalyptus and Menthol time to do their stuff... which means a nice refreshing and tingly feeling on the skin. When you're done shaving, rinse off face with cold water and you have just woken up. There is no strong after-scent which I also like, just a minimal clean-shaven scent. This is good stuff! Though it seems pricey, it does last a long time so I'd say it is really a good deal and the quality of the shave makes it well worth it.

Best I've Ever Used,
I was hooked on Mennen Menthol Lather which is no longer made. My son introduced me to Proraso knowing that I was desparate (my 10 year supply of Mennen was used up). I'm now convinced that Proraso is better than any others I have ever used. It goes further and the lead-zinc tube allows you to get the last little bit. A truly superior product!

I was skeptical about trying this stuff. Like many others here I defected from the store bought gels/cans a few weeks ago. There are many things we American look to save time on in our busy schedules, but shaving should not be one of them. I dreaded shaving even though I only do it 4 times a week. A recent trip to a traditional barbershop changed that. I went in to get a cut and a joke about the Sweeney Todd movie came up. Now as a 33 year old, a barbershop shave was something older people had or I only saw in the movies. I decided to take the shave and WOW! It was the most relaxing and closest shave I've ever had. Anyways, the barber used Proraso and so I went home and bought it online along with a Merkur DE 34, a decent badger brush, and shave oil. Now this type of shaving takes some time to master and is not for the rushed. Even though I have a busy schedule I'll alot the time for a decent shave(20min.). The PRORASO cream is amazing stuff and smells barbershop fresh, my girlfriend even noticed the closeness. Note that it only foams well when a mixed in a bowl with a badger brush. The tube will last much longer than gel cans if used properly. I have to admit that I look forward to shaving now, an attitude I haven't had since I was in my teens. I'd recommend the Feather razor blades also, as it has improved closeness. So courtesy of my barber, my routine is as follows:
Apply hot wet face towel for 2 minutes. (pre-shave determines the quality of shave) Apply shave oil (5 drops). Re-apply hot wet face towel for 3 minutes again. Apply mixed cream with upward brush strokes.(using a brush really gets into the stubble). Leave on for 2 minutes BEFORE YOU BEGIN so it soaks into pores. Shave in short strokes WITH the grain. It will take time to learn the best angles of the DE to your face. Rinse with cool water when done and apply aftershave. Right now I'm trying GABELS Bay Rum which is a great way to finish off. Although it's more ritual than anything since the scent leaves quickly. Still it's one of the better rum aftershaves for the price, I've tried... I must say that shaving this way makes you feel like the man. Akin to lifting some weights or changing a flat..

Wonderful product. Highly recommended.,

I love this cream. Proraso has been around since the 40's (I believe) and it's no wonder. The old school barbershop scent is very refreshing. This cream is great with a brush and lathers well. But if you don't have a brush apply a small amount on your hands rub vigorously and apply to your face. It's got a clean menthol kick when you have a post shave cold water splash. Goes on slick and a wonderful surface for your razor to glide. The price is great because you only need a small amount for a couple passes. Wonderful wonderful stuff. Cheers.
(if you are hesitating, go to bath and body and look for the co bigelow shave cream, it's made by proraso and essentially the same product.)

Smells great,
I love the aroma of this shave cream. It may brighten your mood even if you are not in mood. It very well moisturizes and cools the skin. Overall it is an upper scale product and is worthy the price.
