It Gets Into Your Bloodstream,
By
This review is from: Pros & Cons of Collaboration (Audio CD)
There is something about this album that sneaks up on you, gets into your bloodstream, and refuses to leave. It could be the spot-on perfect lyrics. It could be the infectious music. It could be Carolyn Mark's voice, evoking a combination of wry wit, playful weariness, bar-room buddy, and flat out beauty.
This is not just an album of songs, it's a colletion of short stories--each one perfectly crafted. As such, it would be pointless to single out any individual song as they all work as a cohesive whole. They move effortlessly from hard drinking moxie to slice-of-life accuracy to humor par excellance. By the time the album is over, I feel I know secrets about Caroly Mark and her life. Listen to the album. Then listen to it again. Lose yourself in the stories, the melody, that voice. Then put it aside for a while. When you revisit it, it will be like having a reunion with old friends you wished you never lost contact with. This album is THAT good.
