5.0 out of 5 stars Great LCD TV at a fraction of the price
I've been in the market for a 55" LCD for over a year. I needed to replace a 55" rear projection TV that was great for it's time, but doesn't have the picture quality of a good LCD. I didn't want to spend a fortune and I've been watching as large LCD's have come down in price.

I purchased this at Costco and I thought the price was a typo. The picture...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great for 34 Days, Then Went Wonky

5.0 out of 5 stars Great LCD TV at a fraction of the price, March 25, 2010

I've been in the market for a 55" LCD for over a year. I needed to replace a 55" rear projection TV that was great for it's time, but doesn't have the picture quality of a good LCD. I didn't want to spend a fortune and I've been watching as large LCD's have come down in price.

I purchased this at Costco and I thought the price was a typo. The picture quality of this TV is first rate, and the sound while not great, is better than most. It's fine for regular viewing, but I certainly use my sound system for movies. 1080i from Dish is spectacular, and 1080p from Xbox is unbelievable. 240Hz makes a big difference in the motion blur of fast scenes - there is virtually none. I'm finally going to pull the trigger on Blue-ray now because this thing is so good.

I love it, my wife loves it, and everyone that sees it is amazed. In my mind it is by far the best value on a top-shelf LCD.

1.0 out of 5 stars PROSCAN WILL NOT HONOR WARRANTY, December 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Proscan 47LC55S240V87 47-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, Black (Electronics)
picture quality is good. picture scaling options are lacking (your typical vertical black bars on 4:3 sources are the norm, unless the source (DVR, etc.) can scale to fit).
STOPPED OPERATING WITHOUT REASON OR WARNING WITHIN 6.5 MONTHS.
UPDATE:
"Fixed" (almost) under warranty by Sears. But, problems with long turn on time began. Then, picture began displaying strange rainbow effect which cannot be turned off. Submitted request for repair to Proscan under warranty (happened within a year of purchase) and Proscan will not respond.

Next time we'll purchase a Sony, Toshiba, LG or Samsung.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy!!, September 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is my first flat screen t.v. and I could not be happier. Very good image and sound quality. The price was competitive if not better than most comparable televisions with similar features. Great t.v. for the money and the delivery process was easy and reliable.

3.0 out of 5 stars An average guy review, July 20, 2010

I'm just an average guy and am about as far from a audio/video snob as you can get so when I went searching for a TV I looked mostly for price and also reviews from users (not professionals).

This is the TV I found and I am so far happy with it overall. I've had it for about a month now and no major problems have surfaced. The picture looks good and it is a big upgrade from my old 32" HDTV. The screen is NOT glossy which is a huge plus. Glossy screens reflect even the smallest hint of light which makes placing them in a room that has windows a big pain. This one is a nice matt black that I can easily see with the windows open.

The two issues I have with the TV that make it not perfect for me are somewhat minor.

First would be this TV takes a significant amount of time to turn on, probably about 4 times as long as my old TV. I can expect it to take a little longer due to it being larger, but this is really long.

The second issue is changing video inputs. For some reason the TV either is lagging bad or misses button presses on the remote because it can take several presses of the 'input' button for the menu to come up, then sometimes it misses up/down button presses and the enter key. This makes using my Logitech Harmony remote useless, it never, ever, manages to change the TV to the correct input and changing the input on the Harmony remote is such a pain in the butt that I just don't use it anymore. For some reason the Comcast remote also isn't working with the TV (only power and volumn work), so I'm back to using 4 remote controls.

Overall though for the price this was a good deal. A thousand bucks for a 55-inch? That's a steal, at least at the time of my purchase. Used my AMEX card for the free extra year warrenty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great picture, July 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've had this TV for 30 days now and so far all is well. Price was right, delivery was fast. The picture is terrific. For its size and refresh rate (240), it's a real bargain. I mounted in on the wall with the VideoSecu MW370B Plasma LCD TV Wall Mount, a hefty mount. I also bought the 4 year Square Trade warranty, which is really a 3 year warrany after the manf 1 year warranty is up.

5.0 out of 5 stars What else can I say but...WOW!, July 8, 2010

I'd been looking for a good deal on a new LCD for a while. When I came across this one I was a little sceptical because I hadn't heard of the brand before. After reading the reviews, which were mostly very positive, I decided to take a change. For the price you can't beat the features it offers.

I got the TV a couple of weeks ago and all I can say is WOW! The picture is fantastic...even better than I'd hoped. The menus are easy to use and it has tons of inputs. My HD TV channels look fantastic, and I'm excited to get my new blu ray player. I haven't seen it in full 1080p yet, but my family and I love the tv!

The non-glare screen is great too because we do have a large window in the room. My old projection TV was often difficult to see because of reflections...no such problem here.

Another feature we love is the numerous aspect ratios and the ease of switching between them. On our other we're constantly deciding whether we want everything stretched or chopped off. But with this one we have more choices and can usually get the best aspect easily.

We had a bit of a scare when the TV was delivered because the front of the box had a large tear in it. After taking the TV out we found that whatever tore the box missed the screen and the set was undamaged. The delivery guy was very helpful setting it up and made a point of taking pictures of the damaged box and notating it on the delivery form, just in case there was an issue down the road.

I really can't rave enough about the TV. Our Wii (which is low definition) even looks great on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impossible Price for a Great LCD, July 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Proscan 47LC55S240V87 47-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, Black (Electronics)
I had been looking for a 47" LCD with a 240hz scan rate. When I saw the price for this Proscan I fell off my seat. Impossible, I said to myself! The ones I had priced like: Vizio, Sony, Panasonic, etc., were running with a low of $1400 and up. How can this be that a manufacturer was selling this same product for less than $700? So after reading the reviews for the Proscan 55": "I said why not take a chance on Proscan's 47 inch". So I bought it but to secure the value of the TV, I purchased a 4 year warranty to protect my investment. After setting the TV up on the wall in my bedroom I was blown away by its fidelity and color. It beats the hell out of my Mitsubishi 55" DLP. If competition continues like this, everybody will go to LCD's leaving other TV's in the dust bin like the old beta-format video tapes. I strongly recommend this TV, especially if Amazon is still selling it for less than $700. But protect yourself with the warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every SINGLE penny!, June 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was so nervous about ordering this television because I had never heard of Proscan and actually thought I was going to regret purchasing it after I had already ordered it. BOY was I wrong! If you are thinking about buying a 55" TV this IS it. The HD picture on it is superb and it has plenty of HDMI inputs, etc. for a FRACTION of the competitors price. As the title of my review says I believe this purchase was worth every single penny...lets just hope it can stand the test of time and last for SEVERAL years!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV!, March 20, 2010
I bought this TV from Costco and all I can say is that I am so happy I did. You cant find a 55" 1080/240 for $1199 anywhere. I have had it for about 4 weeks now and the picture is incredible. My girl and my friends who have come over to watch movies or the basketball games all compliment me on it. I feel like I stole this TV. The sound isn't the best but I have yet to hear great sound out of any LCD/Plasma TV. Thankfully I have a really good surround sound system.
