Book Description

At one time, Chuck Panici was an important person in suburbs directly south of Chicago. As mayor of the City of Chicago Heights, he entertained the likes of Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and former Illinois Governor Jim Thompson (along with hundreds of lesser known politicians). He even became known by the monikor "the boss of Southern Cook County."

In 1993, all that came tumbling down. He was convicted of a number of corruption related charges including RICO charges. The trial appeared to be another textbook case of a powerful politician letting that power go to their head and eventually to corruption.

This trial also had the presence of Organized Crime and Panici was convicted on all counts.

For nearly two decades, the final word on this trial seemed to be the verdict. That is until now. In a thorough examination of the trial, this book will show the readers a whole new reality. It is a reality even the jury never saw. Finally, it's time for the whole truth to be told.

Beyond, that this is the story of a man from humble beginnings who rose to great accomplishments.

What does it take to live an epic life? How about conquering the sports, business, and political world before being falsely accused and convicted of a number of federal crimes and spending nearly ten years in a federal prison.

Finally, you live long enough so that at the end of your life, the whole entire story is told.

...

This book has something for just about everyone. Imagine John Grisham meeting up with the Sopranos, Napoleon Hill, ESPN, and enough stories and insight to satisfy any political junkie.

Interesting book, especially since I live near Chicago Heights. It makes you wonder about any "big shot" being prosecuted by the Federal Government when they are using immunity to acquire witnesses. The one question that went unanswered was; "Since Panici was a brilliant and successful businessman and politician, why didn't he get a more competent defense team".

I enjoyed this book. This is the same corruption one would find with the Chicago Inspector general or the chicago law department. Thnks for the insight.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Heights November 17, 2012

We enjoyed the book especially since we used to live in Chicago Heights when Chuck Panici was Mayor. We were also familar with other characters in the book. It was great that it was an e-book since we have Kindle Fires and that is how we read now. We are also going to recommend it to other people in the Heights who may not know about the book.

Really well-written and informative book. I did not know anything about this story before my buddy recommended this book to me, really opened my eyes to how the law can be distorted and manipulated when someone has a motive. Worth a read.

Not very well written.
I am from the area and know the people he is talking about. I was there when Chuck Panici was incarcerated. Not sure the author developed a good case for this. This would be interesting to someone from the area but I doubt anyone else would want to read it
