Important essays on English teaching by one of the giants,
By A Customer
This review is from: Prospect and Retrospect (Paperback)
This is an important collection of essays as Britton reflects on the work of four decades in the forefront of English teaching. The place of literature; what constitutes subject English, the and the Language/Writing across the Curriculum movement - Britton was there in practice and theory. His longitudinal research on the development of writing abilities in secondary school remains seminal. The work of James Britton is one of the foundation stones of English teaching in schools. His essays are humane, wise and most accesible.
