5.0 out of 5 stars Awakened me to search scripture for the real truths., January 8, 1999
This review is from: Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse (Hardcover)
I literally consumed this book. There is nothing but truth to what Jim Bakker has to say, read this book, sit with your Bible and search the scriptures yourself. I have recently been rethinking the PreTrib Rapture "concept" and Bro. Bakker has given me reason to doubt what I have been taught all of my life. I see that Christians will go through at least a portion of the Tribulation as a refining process, taken out only before Judgment comes to the earth. I also see that God will provide for His children in ways that only He can. I understand more fully the NEED to prepare for the coming times. If you read this and do not come away with a renewed hunger to get closer to God and Love the Lord more than you ever have you have greatly missed something in this book. Be Prepared. You will have your theologies challenged. I recommend this book highly, I wish all pastors and leaders would read this book and glean the warnings that are here. Focus on God and not the things of the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars Right on the Money, August 5, 2002

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse (Hardcover)
Jim Bakker has struck a resounding chord with his book on Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse. Unlike an earlier reader who misunderstood Jim, he doesn't attack pre-tribulationism, but clearly shows from the biblical that the church may well experience the Tribulation. My question to the earlier reader is if God didn't spare the early church from such persecution, and they were probably a lot more pure in their expectations of Christ's return, why should God spare the Church of the 21st century from persecution, especially as it deals with the Church of Jesus Christ in the United States. We are a materialistic, soft, and spoiled church who argues about everything, and is accountable to no one. It's about time that God did some purifying, and that the Church SHOULD go through some of the Tribulation. Mr. Bakker is not embracing "Kingdom Now" theology, as the earlier reader suggested, and he should re-read Bakker's book to know this. The only problem with this book is it is dated as far as Y2K is concerned, and Bakker's insistence on a meteor is plausible, but not scientific. Maybe God would use His own creation to do the job. Only He knows, but Jim's treatise on prosperity is golden and should be read by all those who are in the wealth, health and prosperity, as well as the name it and claim it gospel, far more damaging than some other things. Highly recommended!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars JESUS IS THE KEY TO PROSPERITY, November 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse (Hardcover)
God has truly inspired Mr. Bakker to warn all Christians of the "THE DANGERS OF MATERIALISTIC CHRISTIANITY IN THE END TIMES". I walked away with eyes to see, ears to hear, and an urgency to love Jesus with all my heart for we are one in the same.

Mr. Bakker has awakened the silent death of false teachings concerning prosperity. Teachings that have plagued so many Christians with spritual death. Not only is he guilty of doing such (PTL)but he reveals false teachings of other pastors as well.

Bakker gets in your face with a heart of compassion laced with the boldness and courage of the Holy Spirit begging you to just love Jesus. He speaks out loudly on the cost of discipleship. "Sacrifice", "repent from your sins", "remember your responsibility to become all God as called you to be", "see everyone and everything as God sees", "deny yourself", etc. His voice is loud and full of substance.

He has carefully orchestrated old testament prophesy, the teachings of Jesus Christ, and world events in light of Scripture that you may know without a shadow of a doubt God has truly spoken. There will be an end, therefore you are encouraged to absord the knowledge of this book in order to prepare yourself and others for the ending of this world and the beginning of eternal life with Jesus.

Please, don't be mistaken!! This is not jailhouse religion talking. Jim Bakker is an example that God is a forgiving God. A God that will not allow his Chosen Vessels to become entangled with the riches of this world nor will He let bars stand in the way of spreading the gospel.

This book was not written to scare (the book speaks a great deal about the end times) but to motive. It is my prayer that you will embrace every word.

5.0 out of 5 stars Searching for Jim Bakker, March 5, 1999
By
This review is from: Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse (Hardcover)
I have just ordered this book, but since I finished I Was Wrong last summer, I've had a knawing desire to contact Jim Bakker. I was only in high school when the PTL scandal took place a few miles from where I grew up. I'd like to write Jim Bakker and tell him how much I'm praying for him and I'd even like to meet him. My heart went out to him as I read I Was Wrong. It makes me sick to see the media still make a mockery of his past. If anyone knows how I can write him, please let me know at my email address. I can't wait to read the book that I ordered.

I am still reading it, I am not an overly religious person, but feel that something has been missing in my life, this book is opening up my mind and my thoughts. I am so glad that I bought it! Perhaps it will change my life--I would like to think that good begets good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking and encouraging reading!, January 23, 1999
This review is from: Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse (Hardcover)
Since his release from prison, Jim Bakker has provided the church with much "grist for the mill" in his speaking and writing. This book is an excellent example of why the church should hold to its' theology "lightly". After explaining that he became entrenched in the "prosperity message" and "pre-trib rapture" in his PTL years, Mr. Bakker well explains the inherent flaws in such beliefs and the reasons why the church in our current decadent culture is "blind" to the signs of Christ's second coming because of them. The writing is engrossing and scripture-laden and carries the reader plainly through the "minefield" of misbeliefs which seems so commonly accepted. His treatment of Rev. 5-8, which at times seems like a transcript from an "Art Bell" program, does make for particularly interesting reading. I've read his previous book, "I Was Wrong" and I believe he was. After reading this one I can only ask, "What if now he's right?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare yourself for the inevitable..., July 13, 1999
By
This review is from: Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse (Hardcover)
I too, can't believe I bought a book by Jim Bakker. And, I really liked it!

Just finishing a phenomenal book series on Raptured Christians, I was compelled to read more on "The End Times." I was concerned about where in the Bible it spoke about "Rapture." I found all the pertinent Tribulation scriptures in Revelations, yet none of "Rapture." So, I searched and searched for anything that would lead me to this. I thought, "My God, what has this world come to for me to have to go to Jim Bakker for info on RAPTURE." Much to my surprise, it had nothing I was looking for, yet everything I needed to read.

Jim speaks of our unconscious dependency on $$$, material things, wealth and things we take for granted daily such as utility, electricity, communications and so on - in our society today. And how we've become so accustomed to making all those things our God without even knowing it. Thus, making the Devil even more deceitful than one can comprehend. Perhaps we should challenge ourselves to see just how much "abundance of this world" is really a part of us. I know I feel awakened... I hear Jim Bakker urging us & crying out to us like John the Baptist did in Jesus' time to make straight the path of the Lord. It behooves us Christians to listen hard for God's guidance, rather than to our own pride slaying the words of other Christians whom we feel may not be in sync with our own beliefs. I hope Christians (like the choosen Jews of biblical times) find themselves choosing Jesus this time - and NOT Barrabas - because they're too content with the way they're living.

I pray for all the Christians out there that they hear Jesus Christ through Jim Bakker or whomever He chooses to send ahead of Him, as Christ leads us through that narrow path to the Righteous One.

3.0 out of 5 stars Jim Bakker: a man not taken seriously?, May 4, 2011
By
King of Controversy "Can't you see what's goi... (Secret underground location. Fortress of Solitude. Lone Ranger Hideout.) - See all my reviews
The CIA, FBI, Interpol, Vatican, NASA, and the Carl Sagan foundation: They all need to wire up and photo, film and document the life of Jim Bakker. Even film what goes on blocks away from Bakker. God keeps telling him what to do. If I weren't a lazy man, with a job too. . I might document every time God has told Jim Bakker what to do according to Bakker's own word. It could be dozens of different times God has personally directed Jim Bakker. If we examine the TV footage it could literally be hundreds of separate occasions God has told Jim Bakker what to do. Thousands, actually.

Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse is a neo-survivalist text. Jim Bakker suggests we grow our own food as one step in preparation. Earthquakes, El Nino, Meteors, famine, pestilence, disease, stock market collapse and computer failure eminent on 'Y2K' are all coming. Bakker ties this in with the book of Revelations. Yes, even Y2K may be part of the apocalypse.

In his two books he turns away from the prosperity gospel he preached earlier. He sums it up pretty much by saying, 'I was naive before'. I was disappointed. I suspect there may be a rationalization for his earlier philosophy but we'll never know what it is. One believer suggested to me that preachers teach this philosophy hoping members of the church do well financially for then there will be more donations for the church.

At times in Prosperity and the Apocalyse I suspect Bakker's being facetious, or at least he's not telling us his true opinion of the book of Revelations. Just an opinion. At least he's not altering the text. Cause that would be a no-no.

I give this book 3 stars because Bakker does have a talent for writing (or arranging) that becomes apparent towards the end, and he does have the ability to inspire us and explain to us his vision of christianity and he's a good salesman. I don't use that word at the end in a negative way. 3 stars because I am a God-fearin man and I don't want to be the one standing in the way of the warning. The end is near. I'm just relaying the message.
