Book Description

January 15, 1997 086542456X 978-0865424562
The goal of this book is to sort out - in concise, readable form - the many diagnostic and therapeutic options available to those physicians who deal with prostatic disease. A discussion of pathophysiology is brief but clinically relevant; similar short chapters on patient screening amd staging are also included. The authors summarise current thinking on peripheral issues like the psychological and sexual effects of prostate diseases. A chapter on long-term follow up is particularly important to the primary care physician.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

This new book entitled Prostate Cancer has been subtitled A Multidisciplinary Guide to fully explain the goals the authors had in mind when writing this book. Edited by three outstanding urologists from three of the Harvard hospitals, Prostate Cancer: A Multidisciplinary Guide has been carefully designed for use by physicians who do not routinely care for prostate cancer on a daily basis. The book provides a balanced yet focused view of topics including screening, staging, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and alternative treatments. Chapters have been written by a "team" of co-authors representing different specialties with somewhat different perspectives. To give the reader a critique of the areas of controversy and disagreement, crucial issues are discussed in editorial comments at the end of each chapter. The end result is a book that will be useful to anyone interested in the challenge of treating prostate cancer.

This review is from: Prostate Cancer: A Multidisciplinary Guide (Paperback)
The book imparts timely and much needed information in a fashion that even someone sans medical background can understand. Its topics cover everything from diagnosis to treatment options. The sections on treatment are particularly helpful, as the pros and cons thereof are discussed lucidly.Having the right information delivered in the proper manner clears out false notions about cancer, and goes a long way in easing the uncertainty and fear that usually comes with knowing that one is stricken with the disease. Great book!
