Book Description

April 28, 2001
Discover how to fend off fraud, Internet pirates, and lethal viruses when you traverse the Web on your home PC. "Protect Yourself Online" uses plain English and easy-to-follow steps to teach the essentials for improving your online security and privacy. The author, an Internet security specialist with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft "RM" client and server products, deftly demystifies Internet security issues for the nontechnical home user. The first part of the book covers the most timely advances in Internet security, such as KPI and IPSec, as well as recounting the lessons of recent virus and hacker attacks. It also explores what's going on in the burgeoning area of Net-related legislation. The book then provides clear, step-by-step instructions and expert tips that empower readers to take an active role in protecting their personal information, hardware, software, and data. It's a great big Web out there, but it's easier to stay safe with "Protect Yourself Online".

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Despite the growing number of computer users, online security books for the average person are lacking. Although geared toward users of Microsoft products (e.g., it goes into great detail about Microsoft Outlook viruses), this timely work presents an excellent general overview of the concepts of online privacy and security, threats to privacy, the Internet itself, cryptography, and other relevant topics. Recommended for all libraries.

Matthew's book is a great review of the many aspects of Computer on-line security. He covers the issues and problems very well in an understandable way. His book was helpful in my research for my book Keep Your Computer Alive, ISBN 0-9708430-2-X. Regular users, network administrators, teachers, students and even the home user should read this book.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Protect Yourself Online (Paperback)
This book arrived quickly, and was purchased brand new at a great price! I actually purchased it to replace a public libary book which would have been so much more expensive if this hadn't have been an option.

thanks,
amy
