You will enjoy these pieces and the performance!, June 2, 2000

I recently wrote an extensive paper for my doctorate in music about John Tavener's "The Protecting Veil," (listed in U.M.I.) and I've listened to most of the recordings that were available through 1999. I think very highly of this recording. The cellist is fabulous, the orchestra gets a very energetic, shimmery sound, and the conductor and soloist researched the Orthodox chants used in the piece. The composer, John Tavener, was present at the recording sessions. All three pieces are works by Tavener that most people will enjoy, in my opinion.
