Book Description

Harlequin Intrigue March 13, 2007
After escaping an obsessive serial killer, Dr. Cara Messinger hoped to forget her days in captivity. But life would never go back to normal. Dash Adams and his proposition saw to that. The hands-on FBI agent could protect the half-Navajo beauty—but only if she gave up all control.

Whisked away to a safe house on a remote sandstone mesa, Cara felt her world closing in. It was only a matter of time before the killer came back for her. But Cara was more than an innocent victim. She was tired of running, and Dash was a man of action who showed little restraint. And with their business becoming more than personal, could he protect her against a killer who knew no boundaries?

5.0 out of 5 stars #1 - SAFE HOUSE: MESA VERDE - SAGA OF "THE JUDGE", June 6, 2007
By
M. Hartmann "abayyan" (Milan, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Protective Confinement (Harlequin Intrigue) (Mass Market Paperback)
A hot mystery of the serial killer, "The Judge" and the people tracking him.

"The Judge" is the legendary serial killer from the San Francisco area where he killed 7 women in 6 months and has now moved to the Mesa Verde area.

Dashiel Quincy Adams, 34, from a privileged background has become dedicated FBI Special agent and was sent to protect Dr. Cara Messinger and find a killer.

Dr. Cara Messinger, 32, half-Navajo archaeology professor working in Sante Fe and the only surviving victim of a serial killer. Wouldn't you know that Dash found her. Later she tells the myth of Man Eagle, a monster.

Flynn O'Connor, another FBI Spcial agent was put in charge of the Mesa Verde Safe House when he nearly had a breakdown from trying to track "The Judge". Flynn is certain that Cara's abductor is not the Judge.

Cara got into trouble when she failed to pay attention to Yazzie, her fat yellow cat. That cat was smarter than she was in sensing danger.

Russell Graff, a grad student is obsessed with Cara to the point of using a stun gun on her. He began playing hide-and-seek with the law.

Then we have the rest of the players in this mystery - Jonas Treadwell - William Graff - George Petty - Alexander Sterling and Russell's girlfriend, Joanne Jones.

At the Safe House are two protected witness's in hiding - Grace Lennox, a judge from the east and Bud "the Snitch" Rosetti.

More dead bodies, burned beyond recognition, all young women.
Not once do we get to meet, even in the shadows, the Judge. And now we find out that someone was killed when Flynn was moved to Mesa Verde. Someone is keeping an eye on and taunting the FBI.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED [even with the silly night of passion] most distracting from the mystery. But I guess needful for Love? to blossom? Ha!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, April 4, 2007
This review is from: Protective Confinement (Harlequin Intrigue) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book just didn't hold my attention for some reason. Cara was an engaging heroine, but Dash was kind of one-dimensional. The whole serial-killer theme was pretty interesting, and the author did a good job of describing the settings and the Native American artifacts.
