2.0 out of 5 stars Could be better
This book was so cut and dry. Too much politics not even romance. The sex between the two main characters was blah! We did not know enough about the male character, I just felt that it could have been better.

Harlequin Intrigue series doesn't concentrate to much on the romance aspect of the storylines. Although this particular story you can feel the electricity between these two characters.

Congresswoman Kaye Miller has garnered her share of enemies, but someone really wants her "gone". Her Godfather hires her a personal bodyguard until they can find out who is targeting her. It could be anyone, she's not only a woman in politics, but she's African-American, and not everyone is happy at the position she holds. Daniel DuCharme is part of Kayes godfathers top secret security team and he is given the task to protect her at all costs. He just didn't know that he would fall for the lovely Congresswoman also. These two cannot seem to get away from the constant attacks on Kayes life. Then Kaye is kidnapped and another scheme is uncovered. There is a traitor among them and Daniel is knocked down a couple of times. Kaye herself is a fighter and refuses to let these people "take her out". There is enough action, albeit some of it is far fetched, but Ms. Marton did an good job.

Harlequin really needs to get models that are more closely fitted to the characters in the book, the cover models look nothing like the descriptions.

Protective Measures by Dana Marton
Harlequin Intrigue # 917 - May 2006 - SDDU - Book #6

Kaye, widowed 2 yrs ago, is fast rising in the political arena. She's now on her way to becoming Speaker of the House of Representatives. Because she's young (36), female and African-American, this marks her as a target for militia terrorists. When an attempt is made on her life, her godfather, Col. Wilson commander of the secret SDDU, steps in to protect her. Danny's a member of the SDDU and when the Colonel asks him to look after Kaye, he feels honoured. It soon becomes obvious that there's more at stake here than Kaye's political position, the militia group are after bigger targets too. In spending time with Kaye, Danny learns that she's not only smart she's brave too. This only heats up his attraction to her. Kaye's reluctant to become involved with Danny, not only is he younger (29), but she has her reputation to consider; the public adored her deceased husband. When they're thrown into one perilous situation after another the bond between them gets stronger and stronger.

This is another exciting, action packed read. Kaye proves herself up to any challenge and an equal partner to Danny. I like that Ms. Marton creates heroines who have such inner strength. In this book, the plot is stronger than the romance. I would have liked to have gotten to know Danny and Kaye a little better. That aside, this is great read. Ms. Marton is on my must read list.

SDDU (Special Designation Defense Unit) series by Dana Marton

The SDDU is an elite group compiled of agents from all the US agencies; CIA, FBI, SEALs, Special Forces; the best of the best. The SDDU is Homeland Security's special weapon against terrorism.
Shadow Soldier / Secret Soldier
The Sheik's Safety / Camouflage Heart
Rogue Soldier / Protective Measures
These are all incredible reads! If you like action, adventure and romance, these will not disappoint you. I love that Ms. Marton writes her heroines to be equally as brave and strong as her heroes.

2.0 out of 5 stars "The Bodyguard" revisited?, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Protective Measures (Harlequin Intrigue) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the first book by this author that I've read and I was not impressed. The characters didn't seem to be compatible, nor was the plot very believable. The author seems to be very talented, but this book wasn't a very fair representation. Definitely one you want to borrow from the library.
