Book Description

November 17, 2006 012164491X 978-0121644918 2
Protein NMR Spectroscopy combines a comprehensive theoretical treatment of NMR spectroscopy with an extensive exposition of the experimental techniques applicable to proteins and other biological macromolecules in solution. Beginning with simple theoretical models and experimental techniques, Protein NMR Spectroscopy develops the complete repertoire of theoretical principles and experimental techniques necessary for understanding and implementing the most sophisticated NMR experiments.

Important new techniques and applications of NMR spectroscopy have emerged since the first edition of this extremely successful book was published in 1996. The second edition includes new sections describing measurement and use of residual dipolar coupling constants for structure determination, TROSY and deuterium labeling for application to large macromolecules, and experimental techniques for characterizing conformational dynamics. In addition, the treatments of instrumentation and signal acquisition, field gradients, multidimensional spectroscopy, and structure calculation are updated and enhanced.

Protein NMR Spectroscopy is written as a graduate-level textbook and will be of interest to biochemists, chemists, biophysicists, and structural biologists who utilize NMR spectroscopy or who wish to understand the latest developments in this field.

· Provides an understanding of the theoretical principles important for biological NMR spectroscopy
· Demonstrates how to implement, optimize and troubleshoot modern multi-dimensional NMR experiments
· Allows for the capability of designing effective experimental protocols for investigations of protein structures and dynamics
· Includes a comprehensive set of example NMR spectra of ubiquitin provides a reference for validation of experimental methods

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This volume is a comprehensive introduction to the methodology required for NMR studies of proteins." JOURNAL OF MAGNETIC RESONANCE

"Protein NMR Spectroscopy: Principles and Practice covers a huge range of topics related to NMR....A fine two-semester course could be built on this very thorough book. Any student currently using NMR could benefit from the Cavanagh et al. text, which provides an in-depth explanation that is suitable as a resource for even a knowledgeable spectroscopist."
--NATURE STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY

"All in all, I find the book very, very good. It will fill an important void in the literature/material available in the NMR field.....There are many 'hands on' secrets that will be very valuable to those beginning in the field as well as those who are 'old hands.' It has a distinct advantage over other books in that is was written as a whole, freshly from cover to cover; it is NOT a collection of published articles hurriedly put together with a nice binding."
--DALE F. MIERKE, UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS, AMHERST

"Along with detailed explanations of the mechanisms underlying the modern NMR experiments, the book also brings some "order" to the bewildering array of novel NMR pulse sequences. To practitioners of biomolecular NMR, it will prove invaluable for years to come."
--STRUCTURE

4.0 out of 5 stars New 'Bible' for Protein NMR, June 15, 2007
By

This review is from: Protein NMR Spectroscopy, Second Edition: Principles and Practice (Hardcover)
This is the new standard for Protein NMR spectroscopists (the old one being Ernst). Everyone I've met who uses NMR in biology has nothing but praise for this book. It's not a perfect book and has some weakness, especially in the modelling portions. The math derivations are clear but the authors do not connect back to the physical phenomenon. I would recommend keeping a QM book nearby as a reference. However, this book is well written overall and very complete. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for Advanced NMR, July 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Protein NMR Spectroscopy, Second Edition: Principles and Practice (Hardcover)
Book is good and comprehensive it has some problems with typeos like mixed or missig indexes in equations, but otherwise its fine. It is not intended as an introductory book beginers are advised to avoid using this book unless they have good background in quantum and statistical physics

5.0 out of 5 stars Very important book in Protein structure analysis, February 14, 2008
This review is from: Protein NMR Spectroscopy, Second Edition: Principles and Practice (Hardcover)
It is really a good book in protein NMR.

and give out a complete set of the basic of NMR principle

Some tiny mistakes, can be a handbook for protein structure analysis.
