This is a book about the Leather subculture,
By Bill Cunningham (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Protocols: Handbook for the female slave (Paperback)
To my knowledge, there is no other book out there like this one. After a healthy orientation to the world of Leather, the book divides into two main parts: how the slave is to behave in public Leather events and how the slave is to prepare the evening for a formal High Leather Protocol dinner. It is written in the first person, directly guiding the slave through these activities.I found this book interesting because often, particularly in new Master/slave relations, the slave is unsure what to do to serve the Master and the Master is unsure how he wants to be served. This book seems designed to help in those situations. I also sense that the author is a little eccentric. Well, this relationship is certainly an unusual one. You will do well to think of this book as a Leather Etiquette book. If you're not familiar with the Leather culture, this will surely be an eye-opener.

Protocols: Handbook for the female slave,

This review is from: Protocols: Handbook for the female slave (Paperback)
This practical handbook is not only for the service slave, but for the Master and Mistress as well. Both benefit by getting the specific directions necessary to take their Dominance/submission to the next level. This is a buffet of experiences. Pick the ones that suit you and your family. Modify, revamp and use this enlightening treatise into one family's structure to create your own. The handbook is transformational, and I highly recommend it to novices as well as those seasoned in the art of power exchange.

A good read, but not a template.,

First off the book does a wonderful job of explaining various different aspects and dynamics of the lifestyle, which for readers new to the lifestyle will find very helpful. The contents draw in great detail the protocols expected of a slave under what I would call a financially stable, and secure business man. The books also lends a lot of useful ideas for those seeking to establish boundaries and topics for their own set of protocols. The formal settings and aspects help to re-establish many forgotten standards. However I do find only one flaw. For many middle class readers hoping to use the book as a reference for the basis of their own protocols, the feeling may be lacking. The back drop of the book is from the unique relationship between the author and his slave. His dynamics may vary from yours. But the book does offer many wonderful aspects and is certainly worth the reading.

Outstanding,
This review is from: Protocols: Handbook for the female slave (Paperback)
This book is a must have for anyone that is into M/s or D/s relations. It is not a book for anyone looking for an intro...this is for experienced individuals that already have a handle on the concepts, but are looking for ideas on refinement. Don't let the title fool you, this book is a valuable asset to either Masters/Dominants/submissives or slaves either male or female. It is for those who are detailed oriented, mind you, though not a 'how to do' it's rather an insight into a highly refined M/s relationship. Formality and Protocol, keeping and highlighting the essence and aura of what we do is throughout the book. A+ Five Stars from me. Would love to see more/other books like this

"Protocols" was the first Lifestyle book I'd read, and it changed my life forever. I'd already known I was submissive, but by the third chapter I realized that I was a slave! I absolutely love this book, it is stuffed with information about the dynamics of the M/s relationship. Dr. Rubel allows us see how he has used protocols to create a structure that keeps the M/s relationship alive, not just day to day but moment to moment, over both time and distance. The beauty of this book is that it is written to be a snapshot, if you will, of an ongoing Master/slave relationship, which the reader can use as a spring-board to create your own protocols that work for you according to your individual needs. And frankly, not just within the Master/slave dynamic either; even non-lifestyle folk could benefit from taking the examples given and creating a structure for on-going communication and a healthier relationship all around.

This book is a great version of a set of protocols from the authors perspective. He is very clear that these are the protocols that work for him, and offer them to you as food for thought. Well writen in a very matter-of-fact way. It is an easy read and extremely thorough

I have had my slave and any students I've trained read this book. There is no other book on the market like it. Gives you a glimpse into his life living as others aspire to. There is a great reference section in the back my slave still refers to from time to time.

Once again, I believe Dr. Rubel has provided a frame work for people to learn about a topic from the lifestyle community of Ms/ and D/s that they can benefit from.Although I do agree with some of the reviewers that the material is slightly askewed towards being myoptic on his own protocols, I believe his intention has come across greatly in that he is saying (and instructing the reader) that "hey, this is how I created my protocols, this is why i created my protocols and you can use this as an outline to get your protocols up and running." In this regard, I believe he has come across just fine. This manual has helped me to identify areas that I had not considered before and create my own protocol manual for my relationship; I can state with fact that if I had not had this handbook as a guidance source, my protocol manual would not be as useful a tool as it has come to be. My advice to anyone considering this handbook for purchase is to buy it at the same time as the companion book from the Power Exchange series titled "Protocols, a Variety of Views" by the same author. Between the two books, you will get a singular and well as a panormic idea of the purpose and implementation of protocols in a M/s or D/s lifestyle.

A note. This book is not about how to establish protocols, but more an outline or manual for the author's slave. That said, if you're looking for a book to comparison/contrast your own dynamic or help build up a new one for the ground up, than this book will definitely be helpful. If you're a veteran, however, and looking for something a bit more complex than this probably won't be the book for you.If anything this would be perfect for the Master/slave couple seeking to build their own manual for their household/relationship. Based on the information present, format, and footnoting, the book definitely deserves five stars. But originality of content may knock it down a bit as most of the info can be found online for free OR is relationship specific and won't apply to you/your dynamic. |
