I was like, hmm , well the reviews say it works.. umm, under 5 bucks... probably junk!

Well I bought two of these and cringed while they were sent out. I almost cancelled because I
figured I ordered more bs gadgets and I always buy the wrong junk first on here. Then I eventually
buy the expensive gadgets after learning my lessons,, but those 1 am decisions a few days ago for these
wifi usb things were a GOOD BUY>>>FOR ONCE...

I use windows, one pc is Windows 7, the other uses vista.. I put the cd in, installed the drivers. Plugged in the USB Wireless things I ordered, and Presto!!! INTERNET!!! HAHAHAHAHA..

I may be crazy, but I'm glad, if you have either of the windows op systems I mentioned, you'll be glad too!!

This is not based on the RT3070 chipset as the description says, it is based on the RT5370 chipset. It completely didn't work on my device because of this difference.

I tried using this under Ubuntu 10.04 and it is NOT compatible, and it will not be compatible under any other current Linux distribution (as of March 2011) due to an unsupported chipset.

The Linux driver is included in source form (this itself is a good thing since it won't be tied to a specific kernel version), and you need to manually configure and use the Make tools in order to build it (this is not a good thing since the average user will not figure out what to do - they should have made an automated installer). The default build target is the RT3070 chip, but this product uses the RT3370 chip. The 3370 chip is not supported by any Linux drivers, including the drivers on the CD that came with it - I tried changing the target to 3370, and although it did build, the resulting .ko file gave an error when trying to `insmod` it. They are most likely including drivers for the wrong product, or an older version of the product that used a different chipset.

Product info (from `lsusb`):
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 148f:3370 Ralink Technology, Corp.

As for the product itself, it's nice and small, with the body being about a centimeter longer than the USB connector that fits into the port. On my computer it fits tightly, so I have to pull hard to remove it, and I'm worried that over time it could come apart. The only good thing about the product that I've seen so far is how cheap it is. It's too cheap to return so I'll pobably give it to some windows user since I assume that if any of the drivers on the disc work it would be those.

Product worked perfectly for me. I have an older PC that I keep in the spare room, and I didn't want to run wires all over my apartment. I plugged the little bad boy in and I was on the internet in no time...literally. I think from start to finish the whole process took less than 7 minutes. Excellent all around, shipped quick -- and arrived a day earlier than estimated.

Love this WIFI adapter. I am particularly impressed by how short it is and therefore, does not stick out too far from the actual computer. Allows me to use the desktop on WIFI while keeping the computer flush against the wall.

I'm using this device in a very limited fashion...the desktop PC that its installed on only acts as a print server, because none of my printers are wireless. Though, I do occasionally browse the internet using it also. But, having said that, I have to say that this is anreally good value! Im working with a Windows XP environment, and I was up and running in roughly 5 minutes or so. My home has FIOS 35/35 internet. On this device, I average about 26/20, which is great considering that my router is downstairs on the east side of my home and this unit is upstairs on the west side...plenty of opportunity for interference. I literally couldn't believe how well it worked. Every computer in my home needs replacement...they're all around 10 years old...this unit is faster than the built-in wireless devices on any of them, and I'm probably going to order two more of these to speed those up until I can afford to replace those computers. For the money, I'd recommend this unit all day long! I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because my computer is old, and it wouldn't be fair for me to give a full 5 stars until I test it on a faster system that can take full advantage of its potential speed. It has nothing to do with the unit itself. I like to be as fair as possible with my reviews.
