Another great record from David Rodriguez,

You can find out more about David and his releases at at his website, which you can get through google. Sadly most are no longer readily available and I've only heard a couple. This record is very good, but not quite as consistently good as "The True Cross" which was a solo live performance from 1990. Highlights for me are Michoacan, Chitarrista Cieco, and Out of Range. Great songwriting, guitar playing and singing and great, spare accompaniment.

The Power and the Majesty,

I can't believe this has been out since Jan. and nobody's reviewed it. I heard the cut "Michoacan" on our excellent community radio (krfc Fort Collins, CO) and immediately ordered the CD. Rodriguez is the new, great singer/songwriter. He inherits the mantle of Townes VanZandt and Dylan. His voice is strong and, dare I say it, happy, with a tone that hints of a well known fellow Texan singer. His guitar is quite interesting. Great, great lyrics. I have two questions: why can't I find anything else by David and how did he put this together in the Netherlands with Dutch musicians? I remember a reviewer of Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather" writing something like "Nobody can say 'Barcelona' like Bob Dylan." No body says "Michoacan" like David Rodriguez. Comparison intentional. Buy this. Not a clinker on the CD.
