This novel is gut-wrenching and soulful from the first few pages. It has an allure that makes it difficult to put down. The characters are quirky, sexy, dysfunctional and your heart will ache for the protagnostic. It is a page-turner to say the least and a story you will not forget.

Proud Souls tells the story of an ideal family, torn apart by a tragic accident. The protagonist must then go on a journey of self-discovery, taking the reader through all the negative emotions he encounters on the way. The story is a realistic depiction of how one man tries to ward off reality by drinking himself into numbness. When he realizes that it doesn't work, he must then decide whether ending his life is a better alternative to living through the pain.

Aside from the story line, one cannot help but become entranced by the seductive wording. Bobby Ozuna has a gift for descriptive writing, and his first novel Proud Souls is just a hint of what he is capable. His descriptions are so vivid and his writing so fluid that you can't help but become attached to his characters' plights and wonder where or how they'll end up.

The story of Justin Olerude Bower is a story that will relate to many people. The emotions accompanying the loss of a loved one can never really be put into words but Bobby Ozuna does an amazing job of taking the reader through each step of Bower's despair and each glimpse of possible hope. Ozuna's writing allows you to feel a connection to all the characters that is definitely more than a spectator's view and that connection heightens every part of your experience with "Proud Souls". The decision that Bower is faced with is one that everyone goes through in their life, whether it be the actual decision to continue to live or the decision to live your life to the fullest and Bobby Ozuna writes the struggle to perfection. I loved this book and hope to hear more from this author.

Proud Souls is an amazing debut novel of faith and hope. The author has a unique talent for descriptive writing that makes you feel like you are sitting there on Justin's porch, in the booth at the bar, or outside the grocery store. Not only do you see the surroundings, you also feel each heart-wrenching emotion. This book takes you on an incredible journey with some unexpected twists. I wasn't able to put it down and look forward to more work by Bobby Ozuna!

Proud Souls is an excellent novel written by new author Bobby Ozuna. The story of a man who loses his wife and son in a tragic accident is very heartfelt and allows the reader to feel the pain and anguish the main character (Justin) feels on a day-to-day basis. I enjoyed all of the characters, as they were all well developed and played important roles in the development of the plot. The imagery was well done and I was able to visualize the novel as a movie, which is hard to do with many books. I definitely enjoyed reading Proud Souls and couldn't put the book down once I started reading. Ozuna does an outstanding job for his first novel and proves that a great novel doesn't have to come from a big publishing company, as it was independently published. I hope to read more from this author and highly suggest you give this debut novel a read!

the premise of proud souls in one of reflection and contemplation - i compare it to the well-known frost poem where the author looks at two paths, two roads diverged in the woods - which will he take? the one less traveled by? let's hope. we can only hope. but you have to read to find out. there is profound beauty in the writer's (a man, gasp!) concept - a sensual undertone, a sense of joy and sadness from the past meshed into one man and two very different lives. no doubt you'll be hearing more from (and about) bobby ozuna.Simple Grace: Living a Meaningful Life

Proud Souls is a story of social indifference, how we see the people around us each day without really understanding their pain. While Justin suffered the loss of his family, he never allowed himself to find comfort in the people who surrounded him and provided for his needs. Ralph the storeowner, Rev. Polk, and even Tessa all had good intentions but for many years Justin couldn't or wouldn't open his heart.
This books' underlining message brings hope for those who reach out to others without seeing results, but who leave a permanent impression on their hearts.

Bobby did an amazing job on describing every aspect of detail. I felt like I was there watching Justin's life story unfold. You can feel Justin's pain and sorrow, the way he is torn with his situation.
Can't wait for another one.
