Dead Fucking Last does have that cheap studio sound to it, but the live shows and songs themselves are energetic, fast, and catchy. This first DFL album won't disappoint.

This is the only way for punk rock to be played!!!! True hard core. This album is a must for true lovers of punk rock!!! If you liked these guys(RIP)then check out The Family Dog with members of DFL.

The only complaint I have about this album is how lo-fi it is. But, I suppose thats an extension of the DIY punk philosophy. If you liked the Beastie Boys "Some Old Bulls***", you'll love this album. In fact, I think it was produced by one of the Beasties. Anyway, get this album.

A Beacon Of Light In the Mid-90's Punk 'Revival',
This review is from: Proud to be...DFL (Audio CD)
While most folks were singing the praises of the newfound 'punk rock' renaissance of the mid-90's, some folks remembered what hardcore punk was supposed to sound like and guess what? It wasn't recorded in fancy, 24, 32, and 48 track studios. It was recorded on 4 track and 8 track analog machines and it was fast, rough and cut like glass. All slash, no shine.
I still can't believe Epitaph signed these guys when at the time, they were crankin' out hi-fi new school punk rock like Pennywise, Down By Law, Bad Religion with all their pretty vocal harmonies, etc. Regardless, it sure gave me a shot of vitamin b-12 in a brave new world of overpopulated Southern California punk rock where all the dudes were good looking and playing well polished, overproduced crap that girls and guys alike were eating up like frosted flakes. We only got 3 cds from D.F.L. before they called it quits. Most of those Fat Wreck Chords band stuck around unfortunately so that's all the kids heard; now we've got nothing but clones. No one is sounding like D.F.L. If you're just getting into punk rock and digging on bands like Poison Idea, Gang Green, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Circle Jerks 'group sex', Negative Approach, and wondering why punk turned into some kind of lame pop-punk wasteland, pick this up. Wait, was I supposed to review this CD? Snap. Oh yeah, it's awesome but Grateful is the best one. |
