Book Description

June 30, 1998 3764366958 978-3764366957 1
Jean Prouvé ranks amongst the most innovative engineers and designers of the 20th century. His influence on those who have followed him has been extensive, with the renowned architects Sir Norman Foster and Renzo Piano, and engineers such as Peter Rice acknowledging their debt to him.

In this volume Professor Peter Sulzer has gathered together Prouvé's most notable building including the Maison du Peuple in Clichy near Paris, which is one of the outstanding buildings in Functionalism, and the club house at Buc airport. Also presented are excellent examples of his furniture designs from the 1930s and 1940s. A subsequent volume will cover his works in the years 1945-1984. This book is an ideal introduction to the work of Jean Prouvé, testifying to his importance for 20th century architecture and design.
