BUYING THIS BOOK WAS WORTH THE MONEY A HUNDRED TIMES OVER!,,
By Denise Abernathy (New Orleans, LA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 75 Proven Ways to Make Money Between Jobs (Paperback)
Although my husband Andy and I both work, we still had bills we couldn't pay. Reading this 75 Proven Ways to Make Money book has changed that. We tried and are still doing all the many ways the author suggested to save money--even using those "dastardly devils" (her nickname for grocery coupons!). We cut our out-go of money by 19 percent!
We also encouraged our two teenagers to read the book to learn ways to make money. Our son loves to drive so he talked a restaurant owner into letting him make home deliveries. The idea has mushroomed and now it takes two drivers to deliver all the food orders. Our daughter loves the outdoors and believe it or not, she even enjoys mowing yards. She advertised in our little neighborhood paper with a "Help Me Go To College" ad. She listed in bullet form all the things she can do to earn money: Mowing, raking and edging, weeding beds, planting flowers, caring for pets and lawns for out-of-towners. She got so many calls that she invited several of her friends to join her and make money. Now for Andy and me. Using the technique described in 75 Ways to Make Money, we delivered phonebooks and made $1,117 in four days. Working as a team made the job go a lot faster. We made all the following phonebook deliveries too. At Christmastime, we gave copies of this book to friends and relatives. My sister opened an image consulting business and my aunt, who stays at home with an invalid husband, now runs a clothes laundry in her home for retired or bedridden people and also for college students. Andy and I also started a handyman business. We had magnetic signs made for our truck and also business cards that listed all the services we provided. We gave the cards to everyone we knew and put flyers on every bulletin board we found. On weekends we drove around neighborhoods, stopping when we saw debris on rooftops or sticking out of gutters, anything in need of painting, driveways that needed cleaning, etc. While my husband cleaned roofs and gutters, I cleaned windows or painted things. We soon invested in two pressure washers and hired someone to use the second one so my husband and our helper could clean fences and home and building exteriors. We also bought a power paint sprayer that paid for itself on its first job. Now, two years later, I've quit my job so I can run our business. We employ 16 fulltime men and women to do these various chores. Andy and I can afford to take two vacations a year now. Life has never been better.

disappointing,

This book was a major disappointment. It is little more than a wish list of ideas with no hard data or really useful information. It varies from a few lines to a few paragraphs on each job idea, with little or no information about legal issues, taxes, licensing, zoning or other basics of running some of these businesses. Can you make money doing the things listed in here? Certainly. Will you have a good grasp of how to do it safely and legally? No.
If you have absoutely no clue about what a person can do for a business, this book might be of some small assistance in getting you started thinking about it. I don't find it to be of much more value than that. I would recommend instead one of the more detailed books, like "The Best Home Businesses" by Paul and Sarah Edwards, or even a look at the Yellow pages of a large city. Then, do some serious research on the actual businesses that you think you would like to do.

A Misleading Title,
This review is from: 75 Proven Ways to Make Money Between Jobs (Paperback)
This book has two major constructive points that I think is more common sense than anything when dealing with the situation of being laid off. It talks about trimming the fat in your budget by using coupons and eradicating luxuries. Also it suggests that you could make enough money to take the edge off by having a yard sale. But even though the book keeps the promise to deliver 75 ways to make money; perhaps, more appropriately, it should be called "75 Ways to Get Your Teenager Off Their Butt and Make Some Money During the Summer Break." The reason being, this book shows jobs such as detailing cars, delivering phone books, and doing yard work for money. These seem more like teenager summer jobs than jobs to take off the financial burden of being laid off. It would be unrealistic to think that most of these jobs listed could really maintain a household between jobs. Get it if you want to give your children some ideas for summer work. But don't be disappointed at the content if you buy it for other reasons.

Hot Tips for Making Money,
By Marsha Richardson (Durango, CO United States) - See all my reviews

I spiraled into serious depression when I was laid off during a company merger nine months ago. My brother sent me a copy of 75 Proven Ways to Make Money Between Jobs and my hope grew with each page I read. This book has shown me great insights on how I can take control of my financial security. Thanks to my brother's gift and to the author of this helpful book, I'm now making money and my depression is gone.

Best for SAHM,
This review is from: 75 Proven Ways to Make Money Between Jobs (Paperback)
I was sorely disappointed by this book. Many of the ideas require children (read: slave labor) to make the "job" worthwhile. If you are single and have been out of work for more than a couple of weeks, most of these ideas are not helpful. Also, most of the ideas are in other books.

Someone once said that every job is a two-week contract, because every two weeks they give you a paycheck and decide if they are going to keep you for two more weeks. In today's economy, that is truer than it ever was.Don't wait for a layoff to claim you before you get Sherry Everett's great guide to making money between jobs. Get it and put it to work for you NOW! More than a list of ways to make money, this book has valuable tips for making the most out of each method. I consider myself an expert on creative ways to make money, and I found surprises in this book. You also get a lot of helpful suggestions about dealing with stress, what a spouse can do to help, and how to prepare yourself for the possibility of getting laid off. Anyone who is employed, unemployed or self-employed should read (and use!) this book.

I always run out of money before I run out of "month".,
By Patti Grassmann (Spring, Texas USA) - See all my reviews

Not only did this author write chapters on the 75 moneymakers, she went the "extra mile" by including more chapters to help people like me. I especially liked the chapters on "How to Prevent Stress from Stealing Your Time and Energy" and "Lay-Off Proofing Your Life". I've already put into action the moneymaking ideas that interested me. Thank you for renewing my belief that I can be successful in whichever moneymaking ways I select. I'll never again have to worry that my monthly bills are $300+ more than my paycheck.

I was disappointed. A simple 2-page listing of the 75 "ways" would have served the same purpose. Most of the "ways" required or assumed access to specialized equipment and/or an automobile. I appreciated the tips for handling stress.

I USUALLY DON'T GIVE ANY BOOK A 5-STAR RATING, BUT AFTER READING THE SECTION ABOUT THE WOMAN WHO MADE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN A MATTER OF DAYS, I MADE AN EXCEPTION. BUY THIS BOOK AND READ PAGES 59 - 61 FIRST. THEN YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN. I WAS ABOUT TO HAVE MY HOME AND CAR REPOSSESSED WHEN I BOUGHT 75 WAYS TO MAKE MONEY BETWEEN JOBS. IN LESS THAN A MONTH, I GOT CURRENT ON BOTH OF THOSE NOTES AND EVEN HAVE A LITTLE MONEY IN THE BANK - JUST FROM DUPLICATING WHAT THE LADY IN THIS BOOK DID. BELIEVE ME, IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT!
