Book Description

January 1986
Delightfully Humorous Reading With an Important Message for Twentieth-Century Christian Women.

"I was lying in bed reading my Bible and eating a large bowl of popcorn, trying not to get grease stains on the pages when I found a description of the 'woman of all women.' My husband's snores and relaxed face assured me that I was not bothering him with the light, so I read on - "

Thus begins the author's quest toward patterning her life after the woman "far above rubies" the administrator, seamstress, and chef par excellence, the one whose children blessed her and whose husband praised her.

Becoming "a virtuous woman" from the inside out!

About the Author

Marsha Drake is like many Christian women today who try to reconcile their desire to be godly, submissive, wives and mothers with the other things they want out of life: excitement, respect and a sense of fulfillment.

Unlike some, she has not lost her sense of humor. Her third book, The Assertive Woman and Other Anomalies, takes a lighthearted look at the anxieties and insecurities of married life, and gently uncovers the hidden attitudes that produce these feelings.

Having been a "working mother" working both inside and outside the home, that is Marsha is well qualified to assess the challenges that come from having to juggle both career and family.

In 1976, she graduated with a BA/Ed, majoring in both Speech and Communications, minoring in English and Education. Later she went on to work in various branches of writing, including journalism and freelance writing. In addition to her writing, this mother of three boys teaches writing courses for the Capilano College Extension Program. She has been published in a number of Christian magazines, including Charisma, Virtue, and The Christian Writer.

Marsha's first two books are The Proverbs 31 Lady and Other Impossible Dreams, published in 1984, and The Submissive Wife and Other Legends, published in 1987

4.0 out of 5 stars How to dream the impossible dream!, October 10, 2000
By
Judi (Spokane,WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Proverbs 31 Lady and Other Impossible Dreams (Paperback)
Here is a book on Proverbs 31 with a completely fresh approach, the first one I've read to have the courage to point out the seemingly bridgeless gap between the woman described in Proverbs 31 and the "average woman". At the same time that we laugh at the ridiculous antics described in the book, we become aware of identifying with them. "Yes, I've felt like that! I'm not the only one!" And so we read on, hopeful that the author will not disappoint us, that she will find an answer to her quest that will also reflect on the needs felt by the reader. And, gentle reader, she does indeed find "the Way" to live as a Proverbs 31 woman. I found this book difficult to put down as Marsha Drake led me through laughter and tears to that "Way".

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!, July 20, 2006

This review is from: The Proverbs 31 Lady and Other Impossible Dreams (Paperback)
I laughed, I cried and totally related to her. If given the chance it's a must read for any wife who feels she could never be the Proverbs 31 Lady. "Martha," (the main character) shows us we are able to achieve such a dream in Christ our Lord.

4.0 out of 5 stars Humorous Book With Real Meaning, November 28, 2001
This review is from: The Proverbs 31 Lady and Other Impossible Dreams (Paperback)
From the title, we can expect the author to cover the impossibilities of trying to be the Proverbs 31 woman - a woman who seems too perfect for the rest of us! Marsha Drake humorously takes the reader through the adventures of a housewife trying to emulate the woman described in verses 10-31.

It is not clear whether the funny antics are autobiographical or Drake's imagination, regardless, all women can relate to the narrator. While the narrator works diligently on her transformation, she receives several revelations from God the more she spends quality time with Him. It becomes slowly apparent to her, instead of trying to be someone else, she simply needs to depend on God to reveal His will for her.

The Proverbs 31 Lady and Other Impossible Dreams is a light, humorous book that helps altar the misguided views of the Proverbs 31 woman.
