One of my favorite series on TV,
By Tim (Williamstown, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Providence Collection (DVD)
Providence is a show that portrays the trials of the Hansen family and how they dealt with it. The main character, Sydney Hansen (Melina Kanakaredes) was a doctor in cosmetic surgery but after leaving Los Angeles where she practiced, she worked in a low-income medical clinic in her hometown of Providence. At home, she lives with her father (Mike Farrel), her brother Robbie (Seth Peterson), her sister Joanie (Paula Cale), and the spirit of her deceased mother (Concetta Tomei) who passes away in the first episode.Episodes are as follows: 2.) Home Again - Aired January 15, 1999 3.) Tying the Knot - Aired February 12, 1999 4.) The Letter - Aired October 1, 1999 5.) Don't Go Changin' - Aired March 31, 2000 6.) The Thanksgiving Story - Aired November 24, 2000 7.) Falling - Aired May 18, 2001 8.) Best Man - Aired November 2, 2001 9.) Act Naturally - Aired March 22, 2002 10.) A New Beginning - Aired October 4, 2002 11.) Eye of the Storm - Aired December 13, 2002 12.) The Eleventh Hour - Aired December 21, 2002 This show won my heart the first time I ever saw it and I was a dedicated fan until it ended in 2002. I, like any other fan of the show, was sad to see it go but nothing lasts forever. I recommend buying this DVD. It has 12 of the better episodes of this series. Hopefully someday in the future, someone will put together the entire series on DVD. P.S. If you want to watch all the old episodes of Providence, watch Lifetime. It aires at 1:00pm and 8:00pm.

The Providence Collection~Somewhat Disappointing,
This review is from: The Providence Collection (DVD)
The episodes included in this set are good ones, but I would prefer a whole season. The most disappointing aspect of the set is that the original theme song isn't used as the intro to each episode! I felt cheated as the theme was such an integral part of the series.

Please release the entire series on DVD,

This show was, and continues to be quality TV. To release only certain episodes from individual seasons is to not offer this delightful program its due justice. I'll no doubt purchase this DVD, but I'll never be satisfied until I am able to view every episode over and over again.

The Hansen Family's Life: Not Always Smooth, But Never Dull,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Providence Collection (DVD)
I ordered this DVD a week ago and received it today- one day after the DVD was released. Can you imagine how happy I was!!! First of all, the DVD box got me excited....It featured beautiful pictures (some of which I have never seen before) Each disc features a picture of the cast. The DVD comes with a small booklet with a letter from John Masius, the creator of the show. The letter was very touching, and you get a lump in your throat when you read it. The booklet also describes each episode. For those of you who are disapointed that the Theme song wasn't featured before each episode, I recommend that you buy the Providence soundtrack: It features 2 versions of "In My Life" and if you recall, the last episode of Season 5 of Providence titled "The Eleventh Hour", featured "In My Life" by Chantal Kreviazuk at the end of the episode. Kudos to Lion's Gate Entertainment and all the other people involved in making the Providence DVD dream become a reality.

Providence Rules!,
This review is from: The Providence Collection (DVD)
I just wanted to say that I love Providence. It was my favorite show. This DVD was great, but it was only a Best OF. I wish they release every season. This DVD was great, but it would be even better if they would release all of the seasons.

This sweet collection of Providence episodes is just what it says it is -- a collection of some of the best episodes of all five seasons. I thought that this would be the precursor for the full series dvd sets but I guess I was wrong. I really can't fathom why a show as popular as Providence doesn't have the full package like the other shows do. It might be the only show that doesn't have it.
The commentaries and bloopers are the best. I especially loved the final episode at the end where the cast is dancing and fooling around. Lots of fun. One of the big disappointments on this set is the fact that they not only did not use the original US theme song "In My Life" but they also switched the songs from the episodes too. The songs were an integral part of the show and many times kept the viewers coming back for more. This was a good start but it looks as if there will not be any more dvds forthcoming. So enjoy what you can.

When are we going to get all the Seasons on DVD?,
By
This review is from: The Providence Collection (DVD)
This is a great DVD box set but what's wrong with NBC? Do they not think this show is good enough to warrant ALL complete seasons on DVD?
Does anyone have the word on whether they plan to release all the episodes or not? It would be ridiculous if they didn't. I think this show had a strong following and I think they should consider the fans.

Disappointed...,

BUT NOT WITH THE SHOW. It is such a shame that a "Best of" collection was released and not the whole series. With all the garbage shows that are being sold on DVD's lately, you would think that maybe, just maybe, someone would recognize QUALITY.
It really breaks my heart, especially since I lived in Providence during the time it was being filmed and airing. Everytime I see it, it feels like I am going back...I just wish I could go back more :(

First of all, I was happy there was a Providence DVD, but disappointed that there was only the one. I liked the shows on it, but it did jump around a little too much. Could be due to the fact not knowing which episodes to put in. Anyway, some of my favorites are missing. I should think with all the hype nowadays of making DVD's of TV shows, there should be more than one DVD of Providence. It was a great show, and we could fall in love with the characters, and definitely identify with them and it was missed when it went off the air by me and I'm sure lots of others. How about more DVD'S.

I can't wait to get this DVD!! I've seen the entire sitcom through cable TV, and simply love it, you get into a point that you feel that the entire cast is part of your family. The actors are so sweet! Sadly, Providence is no longer on air, but with the release of this DVD I can keep a copy of those wonderful times watching a great sitcom---- OK, I just got the DVD, and it's wonderful, that's all I can say.. Loved the last disc where the some of the cast and crew talked about the show.. it was sooo nice!! Also the bloopers section.. lovely! too bad it wasn't long enough, Good choice on the episoides as well. |
