Book Description

In the old world shadows of Providence, Rhode Island, Nina Grey finds herself the center of a war between Hell and Earth.

Struggling with her father’s recent death, Nina meets Jared Ryel by chance…or so she believes. Although his stunning good looks and mysterious talents are a welcome distraction, it soon becomes clear that Jared knows more about Nina than even her friends at Brown University. When questions outnumber answers, Jared risks everything to keep the woman he was born to save—by sharing the secret he was sworn to protect.

When her father’s former associates begin following her in the dark, Nina learns that her father is not the man she thought he was, but a thief who stole from demons. Searching for the truth behind her father’s death, Nina stumbles upon something she never expected—something Hell wants—and only she holds the key.

Editorial Reviews

" I found myself getting behind on my daily routine because I just had to read one more page. Love stories aren't my thing, but this book offers so much more in the action and paranormal aspects of it. The writer is so descriptive to the point I felt I was there, in the scene, watching the story unfold, not reading it. I was truly pulled in and completely submerged by Providence." - Amazon reviewer Kara

"I started out thinking I would not like this book because it was a love story...yuck, but I must admit I was pleasantly surprised! This book was amazing. It had me intrigued from the beginning and lots of action in it. I was also impressed with the authors research on the subject matter and places that are in the book. It seemed so real even though it was fantasy. The story plot is very original and out of the ordinary." - Amazon reviewer Amynr

"When I purchased this book, I was a little nervous about reading it because of all the newly published teen paranormal type action/romances. I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh, imaginative, and beautifully written story. The characters are so original, lifelike, and quirky. I fell immediately in love with them, and I couldn't put the book down until I was finished." - Amazon reviewer Adguynes

"I love this book! Jamie does a great job telling the story through her characters' witty, warm, and down-to-earth dialog." - Amazon reviewer NYNative

"Providence has a little bit of everything, romance, angst, suspense, heartbreak, dramatic action sequences, and a lot of suspense building for...well you'll just have to read it and try to put the book down when you start.. I dare ya!" Amazon reviewer S. Naranjo

5.0 out of 5 stars Lave Jamie McGuire! December 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If I have to read one more review that says 'this is an unrealistic view of romance', I'm going to scream. If I wanted REALITY, I wouldn't read fiction. This stuff ISN'T reality, it's FICTION. People read for escape. So, I like to escape for a bit when I read. This story does that. I like Twilight and other stories like it because I like the escape. I read Stephen King when I want to be creeped out. I read biographies when I want to read about real people. Do I expect to find Edward Cullen in real life? No. I read to get drawn into the story, and this story draws you in. Nina is a likeable character who is grieving her father on many levels. His actual death, and finding out he is not the man she thought. Her relationship with Jared is gripping. I found Ryan to be annoying on many levels. I couldn't put Providence down. I tried it because I borrowed Beautiful Disaster on a book lending site, and loved it, and I'm glad I did. I've since bought both in this series from Amazon. See book publishers: book lending actually BOOSTS sales of books. Make ALL BOOKS lendable! If I bought a hard copy, I could lend it to whomever I wanted. E-books need to be lendable too. /soapbox.

If you like YA books, this one will not disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously new favorite author May 14, 2012
By Alicia
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read Beautiful Disaster and absolutely LOVED it. New favorite book seriously. Since I loved it so much I immediately searched for books by the same author and came across the Providence series. While this wasn't Beautiful Disaster (which I literally couldn't put down and finished in a day) I was NOT disappointed. Her writing style is amazing and her stories compelling. I feel the comparisons to Twilight are unfair and unfounded. *SPOILERS* Bella was much more pathetic than Nina, Nina yes endangers herself to see Jared but that's because she KNEW he would show up not because she was trying to get her brain to give her some psychotic break with glimpses and voices. She is much more independent and powerful of a character and selfless by leaving Jared for his own good. Jared is also nothing like Edward to me, he is a stronger character and actually has a personality. His love is pure and unfailing but he is slightly more selfish than Edward (which is a good thing, Edward's selflessness was depressing and frustrating). I also feel this book/series isn't comparable to vampire series as it is a completely different concept. I have actually read all the popular vampire series (don't judge, I read everything because I read so much) and this was refreshing compared to those which are all very similar. The story was new and exciting and the love was beautiful, even made me cry at times. I absolutely LOVED the book and am excited to read the rest of the series and for more to come from this author. It's been a very long time since I've been this excited about an author. I would give more stars if I could!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heavenly Twilight May 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Absolutely love... love this book, and hooked on the series (I'm on book two now)
Now, yes! it is a paranormal romance, not like "Beautiful Disaster "(which is a awesome book, main reason why I looked into Jamie McGuire other books) and yes the Twilight comparisons is inevitable, boy loves girl, girl loves boy, it is a lovely paranormal romance - If you love a mental get away and love a page turner Read this series.
You will find Nina - the wealthy collage girl, who encounters Jared (Aw! Jared you can't help but just fall in love with him in the first few chapters, he just brings that page turner into this read - what is he? what is going to do next?, just one more page!) and yes they fall in love... but in this romance you will find the different college twists, paranormal turns, family secrets, father's death or murder???, all these factors embark Nina and Jared's journey making this book an unbelievable and captivating novel!

Can't wait to finish book two, then three... and for $2.99 is a must read! I'm enjoying every minute!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the read December 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not big on paranormal stories, sure, I read them from time to time but it's pretty rare that I find one I love. I loved Providence. Okay, I'll be the first to say it wasn't PERFECT, it had the clichéd love triangle, instant adoration between main characters, yadda yadda. But, man, it was interesting and had a lot of unique things going on. Unlike most paranormal stories, the main character, Nina, was actually very likeable. You understood her motivations and actions, she's a strong-willed individual with her own thoughts, and I felt true empathy towards her. And Jared. Oy, Jared. It's difficult to not love him.

And I really have to give props to Jaime McGuire. I've read Beautiful Disaster and I like the fact that she isn't afraid to tackle different genres and do it well. There's someone who was born to tell stories. All of her characters are always well developed and I really can't wait to read more from her.
