Book Description

Sparks fly when a young widow left with a cattle ranch to manage, hires an itinerant cowboy running from his past. Their future together is forged by God's providence and the sacrifice of a mysterious Comanche warrior.

Kate Shaughnessey faces a difficult decision, attempt to keep her family's life together on their homestead in the Oklahoma Territory in the wake of her husband's sudden death, or sell the precious land that is all they have left to Matt Johnson, a ruthless cattle baron.

Luke Josey is running from his past. What secrets haunt this enigmatic man? Can he truly be free from his sins and learn to love again? One thing is certain, he will fight to protect the family that has adopted him as their own.

An uplifting story of spiritual renewal, personal sacrifice and coming home.

About the Author

Karen Noland lives in Beggs, Oklahoma, with her husband of more than 20 years and their two young sons. Together they manage a small foundation quarter horse breeding program and attend the First Baptist Church of Beggs. My greatest wish is that I may share the renewing faith and love I have found in my Lord with others.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of those rare books January 14, 2007
Format:Paperback
This is one of those rare books that is just almost impossible to start and not finish in one reading. I promised to read this book at the behest of a friend and, quite frankly, was a little hesitant because I did not know the author and usually do not read so-called inspirational romances. How surprised I was to get hooked on not only the story but the wonderful writing style of the author. To be sure it has romance and inspiration throughout but is done in such a subtle, unobtrusive manner that the reader feels it not only belongs in the story but is absolutely necessary. The story is one of the trials and tribulations of a woman trying to keep her family and ranch together after her husband's untimely death in the Oklahoma Territory. There are villians and drifting ranch hands and some indians thrown in for good measure. The characters are believable, the writing is professional grade, and the message is one of caring, sharing, and the importance of family and home. This is not your typical touchy-feely type of book. It is truly worth the readers time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Inspiritional Story April 4, 2007
Format:Paperback
The author's wisdom, common sense and attention to detail shines through in this book. I learned many things about life on a ranch in this creative and very believable story. Though there is light romance, the emphasis is on inspiration through life's trials. It is a good 'clean' read with an interesting plot as its foundation with twists and turns. Not that you're left hanging, I hope the story doesn't end here.

3.0 out of 5 stars I may have missed something May 8, 2012
By Hunt
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I truly enjoyed this read, mostly. I was disappointed with the evil rancher and his sadistic sidekick. That part never really went anywhere and seems almost innocuous. Then at the end, what happened to them? Were they hunted down and strung up? There is no mention after the shooting of anything happening with them? Did they just get away with it? I was so disconcerted when I finished this story, to have such an unfinished ending.

Kate Shaughnessey Is a mighty warrior of courage and strength in this christian fiction . She has a faith, forgiveness, and love , but not to the point she doesn't seem real. I loved her little girl. I could just see her, the author made her come to life for me. It was well written .

5.0 out of 5 stars None July 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
this is one of the best inspirational historical romance novels i`ve read..and i read a lot (30-60 per month). it is not preachy but rather shows the strengths and weaknesses of human kind and portrays a beautiful picture of Gods work through us and his wonderful redemptive grace toward us. Please keep on writing and thanks for sharing on the Kindle free site.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a blessing! June 26, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read this book when I was extremely stressed out about a number of things. I woke up in the middle of the night, unable to sleep, feeling as if I was being drawn back downstairs. I finished the book that night, and was truly blessed by Ms. Noland's use of scripture -- scripture that spoke directly to me at that point in my life. The story was such a solid one, I've pinned it on Pinterest, I've written the author and I've recommended it by word of mouth to all my friends! And just because I mention Ms. Noland's use of scripture, don't think that means she can't write a really good romance! :-)

Just finished this wonderful book - and although I do read a lot, I seldom feel the need to write a review about books; most often because there are so many already there for others to peruse.

Ms. Noland has a true gift for description - when she describes a scene one can really see it clearly in the mind's eye and even feel the surroundings. Sun on the face, sounds, smells - she can paint a picture with words that make the world she is describing as clear as if you are standing right there with the characters...

And oh - her characters! The main characters are full of depth and warmth and true emotion. So often authors tend to go outside how a reader feels the character should react in order to lead the story, but Ms. Noland's characters seem to flow and lead the story naturally. I found myself invested in their outcome and caring what happens to them - wishing them the best for themselves and those they love.

I was disappointed, once done, to find there are no other books available from this author - I hope she remedies this soon for she really does have a talent for writing!

Highly recommend this one!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor ending
While I enjoyed most of the book the ending was abrupt and left a lot unfinished. The biggest drama of the book happened and then was never resolved. Disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The story was believable
I grew up on a farm without many luxeries and the many details about raising the garden, the way they lived was familiar to me. I liked the twist of a double love story.
