His Excellency The Honorable R. Roy McMurtry, Associate Chief Justice of the Province of Ontario Courts "This is an excellent collection of critical essays on executive protection. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Bible in the field of Executive Protection, October 25, 2005

A Reader (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Providing Executive Protection (Hardcover)
This book gives an inside look at what it takes to be an executive protection specialist. Each chapter addresses important issues written by experienced professionals who have drawn from their extensive knowledge and expertise. The information is concise and easy to follow. Executive protection is the ability to keep your principal out of harms way with finesse, graciousness and at the same time maintain the ability to take action if threatened or attacked, information that is explained clearly and directly. The book provides valuable assistance in either getting acquainted with a career in executive protection and/or as a resource for students.

3.0 out of 5 stars An overview of Executive Protection, yet lacking in detail, March 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Providing Executive Protection (Hardcover)
"Strategically thought out and tactically applied" can be considered a maxim in the field of executive protection. Under this light Providing Executive Protection is a global look at the strategy of the Executive Protection Specialist (as opposed to bodyguard). It provides a bird's eye view of many aspects of the profession, written by experts in the field whose credentials lend weight to their essays. The two drawbacks of this book are its brevity and its inconsistent theme. Depth of detail is sacrificed for breadth, with many chapters under ten pages (there is something to be said for this approach). Also, each contributing author sandwiches topical material inbetween his/her introduction and conclusions, reducing the effective size of the book by up to 1/2. Finally, the chapters are inconsistently organized, giving it a "little here, little there" feel. It is a primer book which should stimulate further study in each area touched on. Providing Executive Protection deals with strategy, not tactics (it is not a manual by any means).
