Book Description

August 30, 2004
A lively and accessible book offering a practical theology of evangelism and the local church. Alpha, Emmaus and the like have proved excellent tools for those interested in Christianity. But what about those not interested? The basic theme of Life in the Kingdom of God is that we need 'provocative' churches which raise the question asked by the onlookers in Acts 2:12: 'What does all this mean?' Only when people have seen something in church or Christian life that is provocative or attractive, will they be intriguted enough to want to know what's going on.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This is without doubt the best, most honest, most theologically grounded and therefore most practically helpful book on evangelism I have read for a long time. --Church Times --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book on evangelism with a different twist, September 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Provocative Church (Paperback)
Tomlin's book is a different twist partly because it comes from the other side of the pond. But that is not really a big twist. Rather the twist comes in some of his chapters on the role and the function of the church. This is very telling of the modern church mind-set and approach. Though he is not incorrect (IMO) there are several concepts I don't agree with. This book is less of a do's and dont's and more of a "reason behind why." I would recommend this short read for any pastor or evangelistic study because there is a very good window into the challenges of the modern church and evangelism for the 21st century.
