2.0 out of 5 stars A Space Battle Probably Better Missed December 3, 2012
Verified Purchase
This is a very simple grid defense game. You pick the race you want to be from 3 choices: human, cylonish, and I'm not even sure what the 3rd race was because you have to pick it from 3 little icons. You can pick from 3 different ships that have different power, shield and hull defense stats but what you pick doesn't really matter as it is constantly upgraded during gameplay. You receiving incoming messages, you answer the hail and find out that there is a ship in distress somewhere. The game then asks if you want to go there or stay where you are. Of course you want to go there!

The friendly ships are marked with a green dot. The enemy ships are marked with a red dot. You have two weapons buttons: Torpedo(bottom right) and Phasers(bottom left) that you use to attack with. You can move all around the grid to avoid torpedoes and phasers. Unfortunately, the enemies appear to have lost all thruster power and are as stationary as bricks. What's the fun in that. However, as you play on higher difficulties there are more enemy ships so evasive maneuvers(moving your ship out of the line of fire) becomes more challenging, but sadly that really doesn't make the game any more interesting.

Once you destroy a ship or when you pass an asteroid field or planet you can attempt to loot it and gain phaser, shield, torpedoes or other power ups. If you need repairs you can go to the nearest space station.

The graphics are nice, color scheme is good and the human voice hails are clear but sometimes there is voice overlap in the messages.

I'll try to keep this short, since there are plenty of other reviews that sum it all up nicely.

The game is simple and easy to play. Yet I have been playing this for the past 3 hours. I could return to it and play more, unlike others that I leave behind after 10 or 30 minutes of play.
As the free app it is definitely worth getting, or even worth the dollar. This is the first space themed game I got, and the gui is very much a Star Trek themed layout. Sorry, I can't compare this to other Space themed games, but there seem to be several others to checkout that look like they might be better and more complex games, like Star Trader.

If the developer is reading this, I hope you will take the others advice for more content and complexity in future updates. Such as enemy ship movements, more enemy difficulty, enemies that improve along with your own rate of growth, goals and objectives to complete, space exploration, mining, and alliance building. More ship types with unique special abilities and attacks, weaponry, etc. And territorial establishment and defense. Perhaps even establishing bases and protecting them with all those ships you've rescued for defense, and alien waves trying to infiltrate your territories. I hope people will buy this and help support your product and future development. Live long and prosper.

We are going to need a bigger galaxy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grid based space battle December 3, 2012
Verified Purchase
This game is played completely on a 10 by 10 sectors grid (galaxy) with another 10 by 10 grid for your position within the sector - sorry, no 3D battle.

You can choose from three races - which is just cosmetic - and three ships, each with a different advantage - but this will quickly be neutralized by the advantages you gain during gameplay.

You have three skills: hull, shields, and firepower. Power can be directed to shields when low - like spaceship Enterprise can.

You can either explore the galaxy by yourself or activate missions which will be announced with a voice.

Your weapons are phaser (fast) and photon torpedoes (slower but more powerful) .
Once you lock on target, the battle begins - you see your own as well as the enemy's condition.
If you assist another ship, it's important to stay out of the line of fire so you don't block the ally from firing at the enemy - unless you want to shield the ally with collision on.

Planets and nebulae within the sector as well as wrecked enemies can be looted by tapping them.

I admit there isn't much variation in the game but it's still "fascinating", as Mr. Spock would say.

One more tip : if you encounter a supernova, warp out!

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring! December 3, 2012
Verified Purchase
I thought I'd give this a go, since I'm a huge Trek fan. Played for about half an hour but quit before I allowed it to toss me into a coma. It is simple, you are an overpowered space ship sent to go around, aid other ship (read: you usually outnumber your enemy),while keeping you shields as close to maximum a you can. It ges repetitive Ina hurry. You can earn upgrades, but I never did see how thy benefited me, nor coud I find a way to see the stats of my ship. An interesting concept, but poorly executed. Graphics are nothing to be proud of, and the sound is just short of an obamanation.

3.0 out of 5 stars works fine - boring December 3, 2012

worked fine on my kindle - it was boring, same game play over and over and not all that difficult, it lacked a point, I had no satisfaction of clearing a sector because
it felt like there was no point, no reward for a good job.
