This review is from: Proxxon 23349 Torque Wrench Micro Click 30 S, 1/4-Inch (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have 3/8" and 1/2" cheap HF torque wrenches that are old but in good condition. These are similar to the $20 to $30 torque wrenches on Amazon. I tested them for accuracy recently and they both tested significantly off of the markings. These allow calibration so I made adjustments using some known weights at home. This is not a completely accurate way of calibrating, but close enough. The cheaper tools were not very repeatable and even after calibration they remained far off of the set marks at the top and bottom of the range. My guess is they are accurate to maybe 25% of setting and repeatable by about the same. Not very good. I needed a 1/4" wrench for lower torque values and based on experience I wanted a better quality wrench than the $30 tools will provide.
The Proxxon wrench is the right range and priced below $100. It appears to be of good quality and in my home testings it was very repeatable. The torque gage is only in N-M, not ft-lbs. Once it reaches torque there is a very obvious click, even at the lower torque ranges. The setting requires one to eyeball the line to the torque value so setting the value is not as precise as the cheaper wrenches with the vernier scales. I don't consider that very important, just different. In my testing it read a little high (+10%) at the low end of the range and a little low (-10%) at the high end of the range. This may be due to inaccuracy in my test setup or they may be claiming +/-3% accuracy only at the middle of the range. Again, it was very repeatable once set and the accuracy is close enough for automotive work. The only significant negative I see is that the instructions do not provide information on calibrating the tool. Assuming one keeps a tool like this for many years, a calibration method will eventually be required. I recommend this as a good value, professional grade tool that should perform well for a home automotive application. It is far more repeatable than my cheaper torque wrenches and the accuracy across the range of values was acceptable for basic automotive work. I give it five stars for overall quality for the price, but I drop it one point for the lack of an obvious or documented calibration mechanism.

Great Torque Wrench for the price.
Everything about it seems very nice except for the ratchet direction selector tab. I think it might be plastic and seems a little flimsy. But other than that this is a good tool given the price. At Sears and the local Auto Parts stores I looked at many other alternatives before purchasing this one. I made the right choice. This wrench has a much nicer quality about it... I like fine tools.

This is the best torque wrench I've used so far, and I've used three - Craftsman, Harbor Freight (Taiwan), and this one. I paid a little extra for this one trusting that a precision tool made in Germany would be better, and I was not disappointed. This is a very well-made instrument with a nice finish, a clear little window for the settings, a positive locking ring, and a very comfortable handle. The unmistakable and solid clicking noise as the desired torque value is reached is unbeatable and confidence-inspiring. For small torque-settings between 5~30 Nm, you can't go wrong with this Proxxon! I would definitely buy a Proxxon when I need another torque wrench. Lastly, with a single torque unit (Nm) means that you will never misread the confusing, two-sided calibrations on some other cheaper torque wrenches, which could result in costly disasters when it comes to torquing. I have two Italian scooters, and the torquing tables are both in Nm-only, so having this Nm-only torque wrench made things so much easier. Always read and follow user directions when handling a precision instrument.

THIS TORQUE WRENCH IS NOT MADE IN GERMANY.
I thought that this torque wrench was designed and made in Germany, it's not. Immediately when I got the wrench and looked at it I could tell that it did not have to fit and feel of a German made tool. The pictures are not a true representation of the tool that you will receive. I am so very disappointed. Now I will have to waste my time and money to return this. Who knows what else they lied about or failed to tell us. THIS TORQUE WRENCH IS NOT WORTH $85.00....THIS IS A RIP-OFF. |
