The Proxxon KT70 is a great XY table. I have purchased two of them so far, for use as part of the Nano Gigapan project to allow us to take high resolution mosaiced images under microscopes.

You can take the knobs off and couple them to stepper motors fairly easily, and thus have an automated xy stage for a fraction of the price of equipment designed for microscopy.

The KT70 moves 1 mm per turn of the handles, and a 115x microscope has about a .75 mm field of view, so there is plenty of precision and accuracy in the KT70 for this purpose. In fact, the KT70 has 20 hash marks per revolution, so each hash mark is 50 microns. From my measurements the table has the accuracy to repeatably hit these marks.

That does point out one issue for Americans - everything is metric. 50 micros = 0.0019 inches - about 2 thousandths.

If you google 'Nano Gigapan' you'll find our project, along with examples of using the KT70 in scientific applications.

I recommend this for the home shop needing a compound slide if you need the capability of milling plastic. It may look like a toy, but it handles the job accurately.

I had got it in my head this think was bigger than it is. When it arrived in a tiny light box I very surprised. My two hands can cover the entire table.

Build quality seems decent and I have been enjoying doing some really light milling on the drill press. Cut some holes in a aluminum bar I could have never done otherwise. Way too light for steel even aluminum seems to be pushing it a bit.

This is an extremely useful table for precision machining and I use it a lot. It isnt necessarily perfectly adjusted from the factory so it's worth taking a little time to adjust it for best fit/motion. Some have a bit of slop in the top table, do some minor adjustments and you'll be rewarded with slop free movement and smooth sliding. I don't use the included clamps often, they are good, but I hold odd shapes in mine so I have my own clamp system in place. Standard 1/4-20 bolts fit the slots so just about any standard 3rd party attachments will fit ( within reason given the table size) which extends it's usefulness immensely. I've fitted my stand with an LED lamp for better visibility as well when milling or drilling.

The table is strong and the mechanism seems sturdy and well protected from general debris. The handscrew adjustment precision is excellent and it doesn't vibrate loose and out of position as some milling tables can do.

Overall a 5 star product to me.

The Proxxon KT70 is a nice XY table for light duty applications, I am using it for my Bath Interferometer XY axis movement. The Proxxon is rigid with solid movement ,yet light weight.

My expienense with proxxon micro compound table kt 70 is that it is supprisingly well engineered for such a small light table it is made of alunimun but seems to have an anodize on it. Anyway I was supprised when I machined a piece of brass on it and got a pretty good finish no wavy lines, for the hobbiest such as myself its worth the money.

This is the best small X-Y table I've used and I highly recommend it for any small work. The gibs are very tight and precise and both axes move very smoothly with the traverse knobs. The ways are protected from chips, the gibs are adjustable, and the scales on both knobs plus a linear scale on the X-table are adjustable for ease of use. I work with watches and small clocks so this table is ideal for my use, and it's currently mounted to a precision micro-drill-press (Cameron 164). I can position any work item very precisely and it will be held securely for drilling. The graduated dials make positioning very easy and accurate. I am currently using this table with the Proxxon 24260 precision vise (excellent) and the Proxxon 24256 step clamps, both of which work well with this table. I'm an engineer and machinist and I have had several inexpensive import X-Y tables before that were practically unusable due to sloppiness, crude construction or poor fit of components, this table is completely superior to all of them and totally out of their league. Note that I am not associated or affiliated with Proxxon in any way, I just appreciate a well-made tool and I'm very pleased that Proxxon is able to offer these at such reasonable prices.

An important cautionary statement: This is a SMALL X-Y table, it will not work well for large items and you cannot put a massive milling machine vise on it (like, for example, a Kurt D30 3" vise) it's just too small. If the Proxxon vise mentioned above is too small for you, I would recommend a 2" screwless toolmaker's vise, but nothing larger. Also, this table should be excellent for milling "easier" materials like brass, aluminum, plastic or jeweler's wax, and possibly mild steel if you are careful. But I wouldn't recommend it for tool steel, stainless or anything harder, it's not that the table is inadequate in it's own right, it's just too small and lightweight and you'll get too much vibration to get a smooth cut.

Think outside the box - it probably is a good mini-stand for milling projects, but I am very happy with it as a well built, very tight and perfect stand to adapt and use as a DSLR macrophotography camera focusing rail!
