Changing the blade is easy with the quick release utility.
Thomas Merryman
The blades must be threaded through a plastic piece of crap to get it installed in the lower slot.

I ordered this scroll saw because my budget was too tight to afford something in the $500-$800 range, and for the large rectangular table, reported quiet operation, and lack of vibration (this is only true at the slower speeds, full speed has a noisy knock, and lots of vibration).
I have the saw bolted to a small work table I picked up at HF, and at full speed the saw will cause the table to walk.
You can tell that this saw was designed around pinned blades - hook the bottom, hook the top & your done.
Although it accepts straight (non-pinned) blades, changing non-pinned blades is much more difficult. At first I was so frustrated, I almost returned it within the first week.
The bottom blade holder requires a tool to loosen/tighten and the arm has to be at the top of the stroke to access the retaining bolt.
The motor has a counter balance on it that tends to swing the arms down to the bottom of the stroke when at rest - so you end up fighting with gravity.
I found I have to take the plastic plug out of the table to see the bottom arm to change non-pinned blades (or get on my knees to see under the table) - that plastic plug has 3 tabs holding it in, and they will break eventually.
I also found it easier to install the top of the blade first, then the bottom, then undo the top to replace the plastic plug and insert blade in a pilot hole in the wood. If you install the bottom first the blade will bottom out too low to fasten the top - best to do the top first.
The blower is Ok, but because it is a long metal tube, it gets in the way more than not, and the hose crimps extremely easy. The air pressure is fairly weak and the tip has to be very close to the blade to blow the sawdust away.
I may try removing the vacuum tube/plastic cowl on the base to gain more access to the bottom arm, and replace the hex bolt with a knob version to see if that helps blade changes...
Mike

I am a crafter versus a wood worker and selected this scroll saw because I knew an entry level one wouldn't be good enough. This saw is quiet, no vibration when working, quick blade changes (tool less). My friend who is a carpenter, likes the saw, too. Brand new, excellent price, fast shipping. I bought the Olsen Mach blades and can cut up to 2 inches thick, but most of my work is 1 inch or thinner with the reverse and spiral blades. Have fun!

This item arrived in fine condition. I have made a number of cuts with 3/4 pine and it runs smoothly and handles well. The blade guard is not worth much. The small plastic hose connecting the dust-blower tube on my saw had been folded so many times and tied for shipment, it would not open up for use. I did find a nice section of heavier hose in my junk box that would fit the attachments with no crimps.

Overall this seems to be well worth the price. What the heck, with a basement full of junk, I can always manage to take care of minor problems or field-rig a few attachments down the line. The saw fills my basic requirements as is.

My ownership of the Proxxon 37090 is a perfect example of the old addage "haste makes waste". In my anxiety to replace my old scroll saw, I did purchase the Proxxon, had it shipped to me and I immediately began the setup. I should have put it back in the box and returned it then and there. I found the work table to be simply too small to be useful. Had to make a skirt to put around the thing. Then I found that the pin end blades that came with it are really difficult to replace. The plain end blades I use are extremly difficult to install. The blades must be threaded through a plastic piece of crap to get it installed in the lower slot. The table must be tilted 45 degrees to do that. Then the table must again be leveled. I had to cut a slot in that plastic thing to install it after the blad was affixed to the lower slot. The dust blower quit after about ten minutes of use and I can not get it to work again. The work protection thing is useless and must be simply discarded while one tries to use the saw. In order to get the blade to operate perpendicular to the work piece, the work surface must be tilted about 5 degrees. Soing that then one must also tilt the skirt. This saw is a wretched piece of shit and I will never buy another item from this company. Not only that, the selling price far exceeds more superior saws. Even my old worn out Dremmel saw is better than this thing. I would not reccommend this thing to anyone.

Good build quality. Saw is heavy, stable and easy to work on. Instructions are skimpy and difficult to follow, but set-up and adjustments are straightforward.

The Proxon 37090 DSH/E Scroll Saw is the best scroll saw my husband has ever had , and he has had many saws . Since he has had it he has cut out so many wood crafts its going to take me a year to paint them ( He cuts, sands and I paint them and he puts on the sealer). He was so unhappy with the saw he had so I did a computer search for a new one and the only one that sounded good was the Proxon on Amazon ,so we took a chance and ordered it and we are not sorry, in fact we are very happy with it. We have so many pattern and painting books now we can make all kinds of things for gifts for family and friends.

I did a lot of research for scroll saws based on functionality, use of operation, and price. I narrowed my choices between the DeWalt and Proxxon and settled for the Proxxon because of price. However, I still was not willing to pay the full price that Amazon advertised and I set my price through a website called: camelcamelcamel.com that alerts me when my price goal was met. I am pleased with the product once I received it. There were no damages to the heavy cardboard box that it was shipped in. I also bought a momentary power foot switch (15 ampere, 7.5 foot power cord) through my local Harbor Freight store for less than $20.
