Neat and handy, but limited,

As with most Proxxon tools it is well made and performs as advertised. Its collet, which cannot be changed, holds only one diameter shaft. This limitation, along with the inconvenience of a power cord causes me to only use this tool for a few applications.

nice tool,
This review is from: Proxxon 38635 Complete Engraving Kit with Trial Glass (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'd been wanting to get more into engraving and carving wood, I already have a pair of the bigger Proxxon rotary tools and a flexshaft but it was still a bit cumbersome and heavy for long sessions. This seemed like a decent buy for the money so I bought it. It's extremely light weight, very quiet and has sufficient power to do a nice job. You need to let the engraver work at it's own pace, try to force it and it will stall. The collet is a friction type, you push the bits in and pull them out. Sometimes you'll need a set of small pliers as the thing can grip quite tightly.
In use there are a couple of things I'd like to see improved. One is the position of the switch, which I find to be in an awkward position but you get used to it. The other is the coiled cable, it's not very long and is a little still like all the Proxxon 12V tools. I pulled mine to get maximum stretch and it's less on a nuisance now. I have a decent selection of the 3/32" bits, up to a 1/4" bone cutter style carbide bit and while the engraver struggles a bit, it does work and doesn't cause the unit too much stress. With more appropriate bit sizes and styles the unit is very smooth and cuts efficiently. There is some forward/backward slop in the chuck but it's not normally a problem when running. I have other 12V tools and so I have mine plugged into the 5amp transformer with two other tools for convenience. It's well made overall, quiet and runs true. Comes with a 2 year warranty. I've already recommended this engraver to friends, and small foibles aside, I'm very happy with it.
