Book Description

October 12, 2010
Like Mitch Albom’s Tuesday with Morrie or Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture, Prudent Advice is an inspiring primer of lessons, observations, and knowledge conveyed to her daughter by a very modern mother. These are the rules of contemporary wisdom rewritten for our time—the new adages to be passed from woman to woman that represent the best advice about mastering life in our complex twenty-first century era. Illustrated with four-color art throughout.

Prudent Advice isn't what your mother taught you--it's more. Delivering 500 mini-lessons meant to educate and entertain, Curtis writes with wit and fresh insight into motherhood wrought from her own experiences and those of her blog followers. Time-honored canons such as "Dress appropriately for work" and "You reap what you sow" mingle with more unconventional prudence such as "Talk to strangers" and "Don't be afraid to get lost." She teaches how to jump-start a battery and make summer squash with goat cheese pasta--everything a mother wants for her little girl.

Curtis emphasizes the importance of being ethical, practicing kindness, thinking for oneself, and seeing the beauty in everything and everyone, especially on the inside. This compelling guide also offers poetry, inspirational quotes, and recipes meant to embellish cultural perspective and cultivate a well-rounded, sophisticated woman. Prudent Advice will inspire mothers and daughters to celebrate their differences while unearthing shared core values that bond them together as family.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Prudent Advice eschews the obvious and embraces instead the importance of qualities like curiosity, wonder, adventurousness, and empathy. Prudent Advice spoke to me as a mother and a daughter; Jaime's own daughter is one lucky girl. Allison Arieff

This book of insightful observations, originally compiled by author Jaime Morrison Curtis for her baby girl, will positively inspire your parenting. --Pregnancy Magazine

..a mix of practical info, thought-starters, and simple suggestions, each are reminders about the type of women we strive to be and the type of women we want to raise.  Our advice: Get one for yourself and one for a little lady you love.
--DailyCandy

...The 500 pieces of advice range from simple, sage sentences to longer anecdotes infused with humor and heart...perfect for dipping into whenever you have a spare moment, especially in moments of parental doubt. --OhDeeDoh

Whether you're a mother or a daughter (or even a father or son), you'll be touched by lovely Prudent Advice. It's not jam-packed with cutesy anecdotes; it aims for greater universality than that... --Sunset Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I Want my Child to Know October 7, 2010
By Stevee
Format:Hardcover
This book is absolutely beautiful. I know the author says she wrote it for her daughter, but a lot of the advice applies to sons as well. Every single piece of advice is heartfelt, and something I want my children to know. I will be buying this for all my mommy friends. It makes the perfect gift. I also love the websites: prudentadvice.com and prudentbaby.com

So thoughtful, tender and insightful. Every entry had me going "This is so true, why didn't I recognize this earlier?". Would highly recommend Prudent Advice for anyone, not just parents with daughters, but people from all walks of life. Anyone can relate and learn from these life lessons. Also love the fact that this book is very affordable in such tough economic times. Thank you.
