Book Description

July 3, 1984
HER MARRIAGE CONTRACT WAS SIGNED IN COLD BLOOD - Miss Miranda Sommerby made it quite clear to Giles Lindsey that their marriage would be a matter of business, not pleasure. Only by having a husband could she keep her family fortune out of the grasping hands of her profligate cousin, Hugh Darryl. - When after the wedding Miranda learned of the past amorous escapades of the handsome stranger who was now her husband, she redoubled her resolve to keep him a safe distance from any breach of their iron-clad contract. But if Miranda knew how to strike a hard bargain in marriage, she did not bargain on how little she knew--and how much Giles did--about love....

Her marriage contract was signed in cold blood

Miss Miranda Sommersby made it quite clear to Giles Lindsey that their marriage would be a matter of business, not pleasure. Only by having a husband could she keep her family fortune out of the grasping hands of her cousin, Hugh Darryl.

my review-the story was good in some places, frustrating in others. The hero, Giles was actually a more sympathatic character than the heroine Merry. In modern day-Merry's plight would have been considered "disfunctional" because of witnessing her parents infidelity and physical abuse. She in turn is mostly unemotional with her husband-except in the bedroom-which, for a traditional regency-this book has quite a few fairly explicit sex scenes-which may disturb most regency readers.

This author's writing style is honestly odd. For instance she had a weird habit of writing when the husband was desirous of his wife-he was "leering" at her? I've normally seen that used with villains. The overall effect of her writing style is unpolished.

Overall-I wouldn't recommend this book unless you get it free from the library. 3 stars
