Biography

The American folk rock group Toad the Wet Sprocket were formed in 1986 by singer Glen Phillips, guitarist Todd Nichols, bassist Dean Dinning, and drummer Randy Guss.

Their debut album Bread and Circuses was released in 1989, while the band were still at High School. Although a rough and ready sound, it is considered by fans to be amongst their best work and offers a glimpse of what was to come.… Read more in Amazon's Toad The Wet Sprocket Store

5.0 out of 5 stars This one's for the masses, December 5, 1999

You may not have ever heard of Toad the Wet Sprocket in your life, but I guarantee you that if you listen to the radio regularly, you will have heard at least one (and likely more) of their songs before. "Walk on the Ocean", "All I Want", and "Good Intentions" (which has been aired on the show 'Friends') are just a few of the songs you may have heard on the radio without knowing the band who made them possible. What this CD does is combine all the hits, so people can get all the songs they've heard without having to shell out loads of money on all the albums. This CD is for the masses--the ones who didn't want to buy any past albums just for one catchy song or two. TTWS is a great band and this is a great starting point for casual fans. All the hits are here...so it's well worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Core or not...this is a great cd!, November 22, 1999
By
"mrstyles" (Northwest USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ps: A Toad Retrospective (Audio CD)
P.S. is not suppose to be Toad's greatest hits album.(thus according to Toad the Wet Sprocket). It's suppose to be Toad's favorite songs, hence the title "A retrospective". I am not a hard core fan by any means. I only have one other Toad CD, "Acoustic Dance Party"(Which I highly recommend). There are really good songs on here, one of which I might have heard before, but I'm not sure...anyway now it is my new favorite toad song. It's "Crazy Life". This cd also has the staples of toad, "come down", "all I want", "something's always wrong", "walk on the ocean", and "fall down". One of the songs that was previously unrealeased "Silo lullaby" is another great song, especially before bed time. Overall this is an exceptional cd. I would highly recommend it. It's too bad that toad is no longer together to bring out more great music! Buy this cd, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful farewell from the intimately sincere quartet., November 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ps: A Toad Retrospective (Audio CD)
This album is essentially Toad's greatest hits, but the simple fact is that most music listeners have never heard most of these songs. This fact is a tragedy in my opinion, for they truly missed one of the most musically sincere bands of our time. For fans this CD is truly a farewell and a thank you. For non-fans this CD would make a fine introduction to Toad, as it captures and blends together the moods and emotions of their unique (often mis-labeled) sound. I also covers a vast expanse of their 12-year career, from Way Away (off their first independently produced album Bread and Circus) to Whatever I Fear and Come Down (from their final effort Coil). It is probably a stretch to say that this album is essential to all Toad fans, as they already have these songs on their previous CDs, with the exception of two unreleased tracks (neither of which are highlights of this album). However, it is a beautiful album to have in one's CD collection. I say buy it anyway!
