Speechless,
By Matt S. (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Psalms (Audio CD)
Just like their latest album "Rocks Won't Cry" this is brilliant music. Shane Bernard and Shane Everett have an accoustic talent and harmony that I have never heard. With this, they have added beautiful pianos and violins in their songs. The instruments and vocals are all in harmony with each other, creating a deep sound that is rare in christian music. Most christian music I've listened to has a 'music industry' feel to it, while these guys are much much different. They didn't sign contracts the minute they realized they were good. Instead they traveled to youth camps to continue worshipping God. I feel the beauty and joy of God in their music. I feel their love for Him, and it inspires me to love Him for the amazing God that He is. I can't say that about very many artists. Their albums are MUST haves!!

This is absolutely top notch. This album helps redefine what worship music can sound like. The writing is fantastic and is worship orientated. The focus of Shane Barnard and Shane Everett's music truly is on God. This is essential listening for anyone looking for a worship album. This is the type of music that you can listen to and just let it soak into you. Take a listen to the album's opening track "Breath of God".

Talented release from passionate musicians,

Shane & Shane definitely have a gift for reaching out an ministering to whoever happens to be listening to their music. I can't get enough of this album; it plays in my house constantly. I also had the chance to hang out with these guys a week ago and interview them. Listening to their life experiences blessed me tremendously. If you ever get a chance to see Shane & Shane perform at an event, go. You won't regret it. These guys walk their talk, and their passionate music shows it.

EXCELLENT,

It is very rare that I find an album that has grown on me as much as this album has. This album was originally released as an independent project and sold well enough for Inpop Records to sit up and take notice. After listening to the album, it become extremely apparent why this duo was so successful as an independent artist. They've managed to create an album that not only satisfies the soul musicially, but also spriitually feeds and nutures those who listen to it. Musically, the pair don't stretch far beyond what other artists like Caedmon's Call, Bebo Norman or Andrew Peterson have made popular within the last few year, that is, folk music with a nice edge to it. They manage to utilize percussion and drums more along the lines of Dave Matthews Band or Big Daddy Weave, which adds a nice to touch to what would musically be just another folk record. While the music is nice, the lyrics are what truly shine on the album. What they've managed to do is take parts of scripture and adapt it into todays modern musical language, straying away from much of the typical Christian lyric found in today's Christian music scene. This album is definetly for the fan of music that isn't afraid to dig deep into their soul and be spriitually nourished by an album.

Inspired acoustic worship album,
By
This review is from: Psalms (Audio CD)
I just recently bought this album to see if it was as good as many (including reviewers on this site) have indicated. It is. As far as acoustic guitar based worships songs go, I have not heard anyone who is doing it better than these guys.Overall, the album is pretty mellow, but it is full of wonderful, reflective songs, many which are based on the Psalms of the bible. The songs I like the most include "Breath of God", "Unto You", "Psalm 145" and their version of "You Said". I highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys acoustic worship music. Also, if you are looking for something that is more mellow, but powerful, you will most likely like this album.

The essential worship,
By Sarah (Tampa, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Psalms (Audio CD)
This cd is amazing. The man has talent, and a genuine sense of what worship is. His humility makes the one listening get the feeling that he is not doing this for himself, but for God. One can sense the passion he has through the lyrics that actually mean something (songs nowadays usually are about as deep as a baby pool, lacking insight into the writer's thoughts, and the songs also now seem fake.) These songs help bring you into the presence of God. The emotions in the songs are very much real and are things that I feel and go through, as would most people. Definitely one of the best CDs I own.

There's something about a group of people who are overflowing with the anointing of the Lord...Shane Barnard and Shane Everett are such people. Passionately seeking Christ, these guys put out music that is credible, both spiritually and musically. Really, you'll be blessed more than you can imagine

This album is a must have for Shane and Shane fans and Psalm lovers alike. I gave it four stars because one of the songs is WAY to repetitive and I skip it almost every time.

A MASTERPIECE,

INTRO: For a long time I was turned off my popular Christian music. Even though I'm 25, I tend to lean toward the old, traditional hymns rather than the new, contemporary style. I've always thought the old hymns had more "substance" than the "you, you, you" of contemporary worship. I'm talking about the vaguely worded songs with the artist's beautiful face taking up the entire cover--the type of songs that you could play on public radio and not know who the artist is singing about.
REVIEW: I told a friend the way I felt about Christian music and she recommended to me Shane & Shane's "Psalms". One year later, it has to be one of my Top 20 albums of all time (all genres of music). First of all, "Psalms" is a collection of songs inspired by various books of the Bible, especially the Book of Psalms, so the lyrics are rich and artistic. Shane & Shane pretty much took a couple of guitars and picked out some verses that express the original writer's message. Shane & Shane sing like they are genuinely pouring out their souls before the LORD. As musicians, their guitars are swift and clean while their voices complement each other. The album flows from one song to the next, making it difficult to find a place to stop. The best part is that I find myself focusing on GOD's character (just like the traditional hymns) instead of be-bopping to a catchy tune. The idea behind "Psalms" is really simple, but the outcome is quite magnificent. I would highly recommend it to anyone who's frustrated with popular Christian music or just looking for a great worship album for encouragement. |
