Very good pop,

After listening to this catchy CD, I was impressed by Pseudopod. Their pop/jamband/rock/funky/country brand of music recalls jam oriented bands like Dave Matthews and Blues Traveler. I'm expecting they will become big soon, and although I haven't heard any of the CD's songs on the radio, the songs are definitely made to have a pop radio-friendly sound, maybe even too an extreme. The only problem I have with Pseudopod is the cliches they use in their songwriting, which is mainly apparent in their lyrics. But nevertheless, they put out a record that contains many potential singles, and the whole thing grooves, helped out a lot by their drummer, Tim McGregor.

This band makes a full, unique sound which one is unlikely to find elsewhere. I have seen Pseudopod live a couple of times and enjoyed their music thoroughly. I own all three albums, and each has improved on the ones prior. This third and final album is by far the best, including the most robust and complete songs. There are repeat songs, but they differ from the songs on previous albums in tempo and background. My cousin, Ross Grant, is the guitarist and together with the talents of the other members, makes one hell of a sound. Unfortunately, the band has broken up but I hope their music continues to be enjoyed by many.

A band that obviously has fun when they perform live, self-started, innovative, and a good cd. Not one song on this cd is bad, in fact, just the opposite, they are all good, although Dante has to be one of my favorites. Check out their other albums, Rest Assured and Pod. A few of the songs have reappeared on this album, but previous versions are more raw and, I think, a little closer to their sound live.Catch these guys live and you'll be hooked... keep your ears open as they start showing up on your favorite alternative stations around the country in the next couple of months... I know they are getting decent rotation in many localities around the USA right now. LOVE THIS MUSIC!

There is a certain intangible quality to Pseudopod's self-titled, major label debut that makes them easy to like and hard to describe. They have labored to produce their own style, borne from a mixture of musical influences. Their diverse sound is punctuated by the fact that they collaborate on every song. Together they create a rich atmosphere by layering heartfelt lyrics on top of passionate and emotional instrumentation. Each track has an overwhelming texture that gives the band a universal appeal. While each song with written with a meaning and a message, there is a unique, personal interpretation that can be derived from them as well. Whether you connect with the lyrics or just groove to the music, Pseudopod will permeate your soul.

Simply put, this CD ROCKS. Its difficult to compare this group to other current bands because their sound encompasses so many genres of music, including rock, jazz, funk, jamming, etc. Each song has its own unique style, but nearly every one combines cool lyrics and amazing instrumentals. There are a few radio friendly singles that are shorter and more poppy (Intentions, All Over You, Nevermind the Matter) than some of the other offerings, and as someone who is not a big fan of pop, I wouldn't expect to like them as much, but in fact, they are some of my favorite songs on the album!I highly recommend this album. This group is going places so hop on the Pseudo-train before everyone else does!

I caught Pseudopod opening for Live last night in Houston. It was great to see a band that can play their instruments and have digested their influences to the point that they can sound innovative and pleasingly familiar at the same time. The cd is good but the live show is excellent. Catch them if you can.

A great album from a great new band,
This review is from: Pseudopod (Audio CD)
What can I say? This is Pseudopod's strongest album yet, far better than Pod and Rest Assured, which were good albums to begin with. Pseudopod first came to my attention when I saw them open for Blues Traveler at Red Rocks earlier this year, and I was very impressed by what I heard. The particularly good tracks on this album are "Intentions", "Never Mind The Matter", "Shrinks", "Wisdom" and the extended jam that is "Lackadaisical Memory", however I wouldn't call any of the tracks on this album "weak" because all of them are very good. Keep watching this band, because they are going to be huge very soon.

Fresh Groove Music!,

This band has a uniquely fresh sound that combines elements of rock, funk, jazz and pop in a truly unmatched ensemble. Quite simply, there are no weak links on this album, the 2nd studio release from Pseudopod.
The funk guitar solos on "Dante," "Shrinks," "Intentions" and "Come and See the Light" are sure to get your juices flowing, and "Village Fool" and "Balloon Ride" are ripe with groovy riffs. The album's final 9-minute jam, "Lackadaisical Memory," shows off Pseudopod's versatility as a fun and fresh jam band. Pseudopod blends elements of Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies and Blues Traveler while still remaining fresh. If you're looking for a great groove band to listen to, BUY this album! You won't regret it! |
