I would say good chunk of book has same information as expanded psionic handbook.

In other words, they will probably make your game cooler, if introduced at the right times in the right way.

I reference this material frequently when planning storyline and developing characters.

Psionics has often been referred to as the "Red-Headed Stepchild" of D&D.

The original rules appeared in the AD&D Player's Handbook as an afterthought buried in the appendix of the book. It was always the subject of arguments, in Dragon magazine by way of articles and letters and one of the first D&D websites I visited had a big section on Psionics. When D&D went 2nd edition, it was dropped and one Forgotten Realms book said psionics no longer existed in the Realms, but several psionic characters showed up in the next Realms book. We got a Complete Psionic Handbook that made psionic users an actual class and when the game went to 3rd edition, we got a great Psionics Handbook. Unfortunately, what we didn't get was much official support until The Mind's Eye articles showed up on the Wizards of the Coast website. Each month it offered new psionic ideas and I am proud to say some of those were my ideas.

When Paizo reincarnated 3rd edition into their own Pathfinder edition of D&D, psionics was one thing left out. They weren't sure how to approach such a love/hate aspect of the game, but luckily the guys at Dreamscarred Press were up to the challenge. And here is the magnificent results.

The book does a great job of updating the classes to the Pathfinder class concept; (ie: no dead levels, make it worth playing 1st to 20th level and allow for custom builds). Keep in mind there are several things in 3rd edition psionics that are not OGL (the Gith races, Mind Flayers, Yuan-Ti and all of Complete Psionic), but some new stuff is introduced to replace what they can't use and this book is of course compatible with the other books from Dreamscarred press.

Races are presented with a new one, Ophiduan.

I have been playing D&D for over 20 years, and have seen a lot of changes. I have seen Psionics come and go, and back again. I have seen it massively overpowered, and practically useless. This book brings it into the Pathfinder universe with as much thought toward overall balance as the Paizo team put into the game to begin with. I have been very impressed with the completeness of the book, and no longer worry if someone wants to play a Psion in a game I am playing. Great work team! Highly recommend it.

This was a really good conversion of the EPH from 3.5 to Pathfinder, though I would have liked a little more original material.
The psion class was unnecessarily nerfed a bit from the alpha/beta playtest. Overall though, I'd say that this book is 100% necessary if you want to bring psionics into your 3.75/Pathfinder game.
And you should, because psionics are WAY cooler than Vancian magic. :)

Psionics Unleashed, by Dreamscarred Press, updates the core material from the 3.5 psionics rules to the Pathfinder system. Dreamscarred Press not only acccomplishes this adroitly, but improves on the original. The original system is essentially the same, along with the races, feats, and items from Wizards of the Coast's Expanded Psionics Handbook. The most notable changes are in the soulknife class, which received a complete overhaul.

For the uninitiated, psionics are a branch of magical power, distinct from arcane or divine casting, that harnesses the power of the mind to accomplish miraculous results. Rather than using spell slots, psionics rely on a pool of power points, which can be spent to manifest or augment any powers known. Additionally, a psionic character has access to the ability psionic focus, which powers or augments many of the psionic feats in this book. Thanks to the feat Expanded Knowledge, any psionic manifester can, if they wish, gain the ability to manifest some abilities normally associated with other classes. Psionic characters are extremely customizable, perhaps even moreso than a fighter or sorcerer.

The psion is a psionic powerhouse, similar in characteristics to a wizard or sorcerer, and like them, has a general list of powers with additional abilities drawn from a chosen discipline. Generalist psionics also exist, who are able to use their powers even more flexibly, while having less access to signature powers. The psion, through the power of concentration, can read minds, move objects, and generate powerful jolts of energy. The psion could be thought of as an alternate wizard, able to devastate foes while also possessing a formidable number of utility powers. The psion is an Int-based manifester.

Psionics Unleashed: Core Psionics SystemExcellent work from people who obviously love the genre. A very worthwhile addition for those playing Pathfinder RPG. Not a huge advance on Psionics Expanded from 3.5ed but fits in nicely with the main Rules set. Psionic Warriors are still not as good as the Fighter Class for straight combat, nor up there with Clerics for spell ability but the other 3 Classes are well able to hold their own especially the Psiblade Class which has been almost totally overhauled. If you want Psionics in your campaign, go for this!

Psionics Unleashed is a faithful revamp of the original 3.5 Psionics Rules of the artist formerly known as the World's Most Popular Roleplaying Game. The folks at Dreamscarred Press did a good job of cleaning up and fixing up the old 3.5 Psionic Rules, not only making them Pathfinder compatible but also increasing and decreasing power as needed and making the rules streamlined to fit Pathfinder.

The place where this product really starts to slip is in its art and its layout. There are many errors throughout the text that seemed to slip past editing and the art is not very high quality. It makes sense given that this is the first release for Pathfinder that this company did, but art has a strong visual sway over a reader and I can assure you that this book has given me virtually no desire to play roughly half its races, which is a shame.

Would I recommend this product? Yes and no. If you absolutely need psionics this minute, the book is worth picking up because the rules are strong if you can look past its presentation. However, Dreamworks Press just recently funded a Kickstarter to combine this book with their second book, Psionics Expanded, and among other things this new book has a much better team of artists behind it. If you can wait, I recommend doing so for a much more polished product.
