4.0 out of 5 stars Help and relief, yes. Cure, no.
Every one has different experiences with psoriasis and the various "cures" available. This one works for me where others have not. After 6 months on a modified regimen primarily of milk thistle, B-50 or 100 complex, garlic oil, lecithin and Omega-3/GLA, my skin has actually cleared in most places. 1.0 out of 5 stars A word of caution from a nutritionist
I suffer from psoriasis and am also a nutritionist. I think the overall message of this book (ie psoriasis symptoms can be influenced to some degree by diet and lifestyle, and modifications of an unhealthy diet/lifestyle can therefore help mitigate psoriasis symptoms) is valid. I don't take all the supplements LeVan discusses. Being off the regimen for very long allows the lesions to re-form. This book was the first I have found that addresses the underlying biochemical cause of psoriasis (liver malfunction) and gives a non-steroid option for relief. At the very least I can now function in relative comfort and have worn short sleeves in public for the first time in years. Hurrah for this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars I was cleared in 3 weeks, January 18, 2006
This review is from: The Psoriasis Cure: A Drug-Free Guide to Stopping & Reversing the Symptoms of Psoriasis (Paperback)
I had terrible guttate psoriasis all over my entire body that morphed into plaqualar psoriasis--I suffered with it for six months, bad enough that I was bed-ridden. Even though I'd given up hope, someone bought me this book and I tried it. Using their diet "do's and don'ts" and supplement regimen (yes, it's like 60 vitamins a day. But when your body is crying out for help like that, severity is necessary). I was CLEARED...in three weeks. I almost wonder if the reason this is not known by all the world is because the insurance companies won't make money if everyone knew! Because, at least for me, this book really was a cure, and 4 years later, I've never had another outbreak. I combined this diet, by the way, with UV treatments (which had previously only helped temporarily).

However, I find it extremely unnerving to find a biochemist giving specific guidelines on nutrient intake which are not consistent with current recommended guidelines. Current guidelines are based on clinical studies and scientific research and they should not be ignored. A specific example - Levan recommends a vitamin B12 intake of 1000 mcg twice a day. The known toxic intake of this vitamin is 100 mcg/day (ie Levan is recommending an intake 20x the toxic level). This vitamin is stored in the liver and so toxicity is a real risk. Scary stuff. My recommendation to other psoriasis sufferers would be to believe in Levan's premise - a healthy diet and lifestyle will help alleviate psoriasis symptoms, then avail yourself of a book written by a well grounded nutritionist (Miriam Nelson for example) or consult a dietitian. At the very least, read Levan's book with an open mind, check her numbers vs other texts and use her guidelines with caution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book - Get it. Read it. It will help you., November 15, 2005
This review is from: The Psoriasis Cure: A Drug-Free Guide to Stopping & Reversing the Symptoms of Psoriasis (Paperback)
Finally, an easy to read and understand book that clearly explains what to do to get rid of psoriasis, how to do it, and why other methods commonly in use, such as lots of exposure to direct sunlight or UV light, are potentially very dangerous. Very practical and useful information. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has psoriasis or who has a friend or loved one with psoriasis. It is, as a friend of mine has said, "like a breath of fresh air".

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes sense--but expensive, July 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Psoriasis Cure: A Drug-Free Guide to Stopping & Reversing the Symptoms of Psoriasis (Paperback)
This was a good book and Lisa made alot of sense in what she said, however, the cost of the vitamin program is quite expensive. While on the program my psoriasis was better and I felt great. The only negative drawback I had was the cost of the vitamins, but I guess there is a price to pay for clear skin!

2.0 out of 5 stars proceed with caution.., March 7, 2003
This review is from: The Psoriasis Cure: A Drug-Free Guide to Stopping & Reversing the Symptoms of Psoriasis (Paperback)
I want to believe that taking mega doses of vitamin supplements will cure Psoriasis, but at the same time my common sense tells me to listen to the previous cautionary post from the nutritionist -- the recommended amounts of supplements in this book seem extreme. And I doubt I'd ever get my son to swallow that many tablets on a daily basis! The book promotes a "drug-free guide to stopping symptoms of psoriasis" but doesn't address the toxic effects of some of the recommended vitamins, except to say 'reduce dosage if you experience tingling in your hands' etc. The dietary changes on the other hand, seem very appropriate, but this information is available elsewhere. Anyone wanting to read this book would do well to proceed with caution...

5.0 out of 5 stars Psoriasis Cure A drug-free guide to stopping & reversing the symptoms of psoriasis, March 9, 2007
This review is from: The Psoriasis Cure: A Drug-Free Guide to Stopping & Reversing the Symptoms of Psoriasis (Paperback)
Author Lisa LeVan makes her book easy to read and understand. Lisa herself has had Psoriasis too, so the skin condition is not just a theory for her, she tested her recommendations on herself. I'm very glad that I purchased her book, I have found it very useful. It is obvious that Lisa is a very intelligent woman, but I believe she didn't write this book to prove to the world how smart she is or an ego booster, she wanted to be helpful. I hope Lisa will write more books on this subject.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs work, November 1, 2005
This review is from: The Psoriasis Cure: A Drug-Free Guide to Stopping & Reversing the Symptoms of Psoriasis (Paperback)
Psoriasis is an inflammatory response. Your immune system is overactive. Helping to control it through diet is an essential part of succesful treatment. If you get that part out of this book, great. But the diet here is extreme as the nutritionist's review states. You're better off with a book on treating inflammation such as Floyd Chilton's "Inflammation Nation". Also, as for "it works for me", a day in the ocean does more good than any drug I've ever used. Sun and salt water are wonderfull, not to mention stress reducing. A win all the way around. Hope this helps some of you fellow sufferers.

Well written and informative approach to understanding the causes, biological responses and nutirients needed to correct this disorder. I appreciate the information telling how each supplement corrects a nutritional inadequacy and encourages the achievement of balancing one's health.
