Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

In the sixth season of USA's Psych, police consultant Shawn (James Roday) and detective Jules (Maggie Lawson) come clean about their relationship, but it doesn't change the tone in any way, since Shawn remains as much of a goofball as ever (her strained relationship with her father, played by William Shatner, however, lends the usually sunny character a darker dimension). Initially uncomfortable with the situation, Gus (Dulé Hill) and Lassie (Timothy Omundson) enjoy a little romance of their own--the episode in which the two go clubbing with Henry (Corbin Bernsen) represents one of the series' funniest.

All the while, the cases keep coming, and the show is at its best when it keeps things light, as in the episodes that draw from comic books ("The Amazing Psych-Man & Tap-Man, Issue #2"), horror movies ("Heeeeere's Lassy"), and The Hangover ("Last Night Gus"). In the latter, the guys, including Woody, the coroner (recurring guest star Kurt Fuller, most recently seen in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris), retrace their steps after someone spikes their drinks. Because they don't remember anything from the night before, they must interpret strange clues, like Lassie's black eye, Shawn's unfamiliar shoes, and Woody's powdery face (apparently, he licked a shelf full of donuts). Psych also has fun with the casting by hiring Kristy Swanson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys) for a vampire-themed installment ("This Episode Sucks"). That said, not everything works, like the Skype episode ("Let's Doo-Wop It Again") and the return of Cary Elwes's master thief Despereaux, who isn't as entertaining as intended, but those are minor quibbles when everything else works so well. The extensive special features offer deleted and extended scenes, gag reels, video introductions, and audio commentaries with the entire cast. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Product Description

The world's most dynamic, and oddball, detective duo get more than they bargained for when they take on con-artists, masked vigilantes and Darth Vader collectibles in the wild sixth season of Psych. Fake "psychic detective" Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his best bud, Burton "Gus" Guster (Dul‚ Hill), go undercover, behind the scenes and over the top to solve some of the most off the wall crimes imaginable. But how long can these super sleuths keep their psychic secret safe? Guest starring William Shatner (Boston Legal), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Molly Ringwald (The Breakfast Club) and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon franchise), re-live the laughs, thrills and mind-boggling mysteries uninterrupted and back-to-back in all 16 episodes of the totally unique and unpredictable series that will keep you guessing just whodunit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shout! Shout! Let it all out.... December 13, 2011
Format:DVD
This is one of the most entertaining shows on the air. No it wont change your life. No it wont launch you into a paradoxical tirade about life the universe and everything. What it will do is make you laugh, snort, chuckle, groan and giggle. Shawn and Gus are 2 of the most endearing characters around. They have good hearts and are always trying to do good (mostly). I am constantly amazed at how silly this show can be and then turn around and have me on the edge of my seat wondering how they are going to get out of the mess they've gotten themselves into. I marvel at how touching it can be too, (especially the scenes with Shawn's mom and the ones with Juliet) and then slap me in the face with some random ridiculous '80's reference that makes me glad that my personal memories of that time have been shoved back to the far reaches of my mind! Season 6, as it is so far, has been all of these things and more. The relationships have grown (or groan, I've heard it both ways!) so as to keep you coming back for more and the stories are perplexing and intriguing enough to keep you from falling asleep. Still not rocket science. It's not supposed to be. Personally I know people like Shawn and Gus....in fact, I might be a little like Shawn and Gus... and I think that's a good thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Crush on Gus and Shawn November 15, 2011
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is one of those series that is just fun--plain and simple. The premise doesn't change but the writing is just so engaging and hilarious that you can watch the same premise over and over and not feel cheated. The antics Gus and Shawn get into and the dialogue exchanges are HILARIOUS. There are SO many quotable lines. Plus, the supporting characters are just supreme. Lassie and the dad are adorable (however, the chief and juliet are a little two-dimensional for my taste).

I totally recommend this season (one of the best) and series to anyone who is looking for something to watch. It isn't earth shattering or "stop the presses" must see, but simply delightful and worth a watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wait for iiiiiittt! June 9, 2012
Format:DVD
I don't know how to explain the enjoyment I receive from this show; but suffice it to say that it is immence. I currently own all five of the available seasons on dvd and am waiting very impatiently for season six. For those of you who haven't seen any of the past episodes; well then you are probably not reading any of these reviews anyway, the show is just freaking fun. And you don't know how much you've missed even when you have seen the shows untill you watch them again. You'll pick up lots of smart-aleck comments, 80's references, and hilarious quips that you didn't get the first time around. The relationship between the people in Psych is one of a tightly knit family. You get invested in their lives; but it's all just for fun!! You think Trekki's are bad, you ain't seen nothing till you've been around a bunch of "Psycho's"!

4.0 out of 5 stars Who doesn't love Psych
Mystery, playfulness, attraction, and so forth. I do enjoy psych although I don't like that it drops so many sexual references.

5.0 out of 5 stars Series Still Stays Fresh And The Humor And Camaraderie Stays Strong
While most series start to either get stale(CSI) or make it to much of a soap opera(Law&Order:SVU) this series still keeps the hilarity and overall camaraderie of the cast strong... Read more
