Absoulutely incredible performance!!, October 15, 2001
I was fortunate enough to have attended this show earlier this year and have been eagerly awaiting the DVD. I already saw the recorded performance on DirecTV for free but I'm still getting the DVD as it is currently impossible to record the pristine sattelite picture onto ... videotape. And besides, the money spent is more than worth it.
Richard Butler is clearly one of the great performers of our time and here he is in top form. He clearly appears to be savoring in the moment. Nothing nostalgic about this performance either. The music sounds just as fresh and immediate now as it did almost 20 years ago. A testament as to just how ahead of their time they truly were. I wholeheartedly recommend it to any newer fan or any younger people who wonder where the magic and aura of performing has gone in this "nu-metal-corporate alternative-thug rapper era" we find ourselves in. If only we still had rock performers with a presence that is sheer cool rather than menacing and intimidating. Richard Butler is just that and then some...

No surprise, a wonderful performance., December 28, 2001

This review is from: Psychedelic Furs - Live from the House of Blues (DTS) (DVD)
I too had the good fortune to see the Furs on this tour, several times in fact, and this video really captures them in all their power. Granted the sound quality of the disc is fair at best but as to their "unrehearsed, sloppy performance" I would suggest that the Mountain View reviewer missed, or perhaps never got, the heart of what the Furs are all about. The Furs have always been, and continue to be, a band of deep emotion with strong punk roots. Remarkably, they remain as fresh and vital in 2001 as they were when I first saw them in 1981 and continue to hit the chord of a band with a deep soul. Unfortunately, all but one of the new songs showcased on this tour were omitted from this disc, a real mistake in my opinion. Despite that, this DVD is proof that the Furs talent and influence are one of the best-kept secrets in music. This DVD should be in the collection of any lover of music of substance.

The CD Mix Was Better, But the Visual is Key, December 19, 2002
This review is from: Psychedelic Furs - Live from the House of Blues (DTS) (DVD)
This concert footage is amazing on DVD. The Psychedelic Furs are back together, who knows for how long. This DVD captures a moment in music that may be lost forever. I saw the furs on this tour and they were amazing. I bought this DVD the moment it came out because I wanted to have a concert of a band that may very well be gone forever.
Front man Richard Butler leads this new incarnation of the furs here. The original furs had a horn section. . . an almost rotating cast. The original guitar John Ashton, and original bassist Tim Butler are back and that is definitely important to the band. Also involved in the project is Richard Fortus, and Earl Harven. Both are members of Richard Butler's 90's band Love Spit Love.
The mix on the DVD is not that great. . . That is the only thing that bugs me. The CD from the same show is mixed differently and it sounds better, it takes a little of the edge off of Butler's voice in songs like "Heaven" where on the DVD, it is pretty bad. It was like the mixers turned Richard up way too much. . . But other than that, the sound is great.
There are some extras on the DVD that are really good. There are three acoustic songs played somewhere in the House of Blues without an audience. One is new; "Wrong Train". . . It is great. There are also a couple new songs on the concert section of the DVD. The previously mentioned "Wrong Train" is one, and the other is called "Alive," and it is great.
One of the best features of the live show is that a lot of the "80's" feel is muted slightly. It makes the datedness of some of the albums seem to go away. This is a great DVD. It should be on the shelves of every Psychedelic Furs fan, as well as any fan of great music.
