Psychiatry for non-psychiatrists,
This review is from: Psychiatry Essentials for Primary Care (Paperback)
An excellent resource for any non-psychiatrist provider who cares for patients on a regular basis. As a sleep medicine physician I found it very helpful for my daily practice as many of my patients have components of psychiatric problems. It is written in a very clear and concise style and is very easy to understand. There are many references to current data and studies that a non-psychiatrist would be unfamiliar with. The sections on drug treatment are also excellent. I feel I can better take care of my patients because of the material in this book.
I highly recommend this book for all primary care physicians as well as specialty physicians who may see patients in a primary care role. I wish all medicine texts were this good!

Practical, specific advice for diagnosing and treating mental health problems for the non psychiatrist,

This review is from: Psychiatry Essentials for Primary Care (Paperback)
Dr. Schneider's book contains a wealth of easily accessible, research-based information for diagnosing and treating psychiatric problems in a primary care setting. It is not only relevant for primary care pratitioners but I think also for a well informed lay public. The text is easy to reference and practical to use on a day-to-day clincal basis. This book is a timely contribution of synthesized knowledge to the complex emerging field of psychiatry in primary care.

A great friendly to read, understand and retain Book, the problem for most of Non-Psych MD like me, is we know a little about this issue, its not integrated in our Differential and if it pops out , just we cannot express the correct diagnosis, more over for Step 3 Exam , its poorly covered in most review books, u know that SSRIs are the Doc, but how to use them , when to stop, when to taper, all these true management tips are not there.
What this book offers a hands on experience for for non-psych physician to recognize, effectively manage and understand and speak the language a Psychiatrist would do. i tried several times to expand my Psychiatry knowledge beyond the review books for the exams to get an in depth understanding, but usually i gave up in the face of the cumbersome sophisticated psychiatry books that just make u run away from the issue and just stick to the superficial knowledge u have, specially when they start listing the Diagnostic Criteria for the DSM-IV my brain gets fried and overwhelmed , and i almost get lost and absorbed in the tiny details losing focus on the Big picture. This book is a painless way of getting what u need to know without the suffering , if ur a PCP, surgeon, internist. The draw Back : no child psychiatry is included in this book if it want so lame, i would rename this book "how to be a Psychiatrist in 10 days" |
