Psychiatry in Medical Practice provides students with a reliable framework within which to understand the psychiatric illnesses they are likely to encounter in general medical settings and clear guidelines for good practice. This new edition retains many of the valuable features of the first edition but has been thoroughly revised and expanded to cover new topics and treatments. The ICD-10 classification is used throughout. The book includes:

  • a practical guide to the medical interview
  • diagnostic criteria for all the common syndromes of psychiatric illness
  • up-to-date findings from neurochemistry and epidemiology
  • pocket card summarizing essential information

In straightforward and practical language Psychiatry in Medical Practice demystifies the relationships between the various kinds of mental disorder and provides an excellent introduction to the subject for those students who intend to enter psychiatry or general practice.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This is an outstanding revision of the excellent text which has successfully supported many medical students through their training, and into their subsequent clinical careers. Whether the student plans to go into general practice, study psychiatry or become a medical or surgical specialist, this book provides an essential grounding in psychiatry in medical practice."Professor Rachel Jenkins, Director of WHO Collaborating Centre, Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, and Director of International affairs, Royal College of Psychiatrists, London, UK

"Overall this is an up-to-date, accesible and well-referenced textbook, the sort of straightforward resource that GP's and physicians should have at hand, as a quick update or refresher on what psychiatry is about." - Trevor Turner, British Journal of Hospital Medicine, Vol. 70, No. 2, Feb 2009
