I used this book to prepare for the psychiatry shelf exam. Overall, I liked it. Some of questions themselves are not reflective of the shelf question style, per se; the questions on the shelf are much longer, and the questions in this book tend to focus too much on drug half-lives and epidemiology. Also, there were a few blocks of questions that were totally useless for the shelf --- particularly the section about theories of development (Piaget, Freud, Erikson, and all that jazz). However, the questions about specific psychiatric diagnoses were very helpful. Spending the time to read through the answer explanations is crucial, even if you answered the question correctly! The explanations are the real strength of this book. In sum: a worthwhile investment!

This is an excellent test preparation book. The questions are well worded and make sense, the answers are very instructive. I found that the answers were very comprehensive and reading them was reviewing for the test. Each subject was covered with 50+ questions that hit all the high spots for the test. This is a must have review book.

I just don't like Case Files. First of all, it's full of typos, which drives me crazy. If you're ok with that, then by all means go ahead. But for me, it makes me lose faith in the whole book. I've found some other errors as well. Also, in my opinion, the questions are too detailed for a third year med students, so if that's what you are, I'd consider looking elsewhere. But if you're a masochist, go for it!
