This review is from: Psychic Academy, Vol. 10 (Paperback)
After breaking out of the ADC facility, Mew begins to question whether her place is really at the Psychic Academy or is there some higher calling she has to fulfill? And what is she going to do about her feelings about Ai? She doesn't have much time to figure out these things when Gabriela Amelie, an aura user working for ADC, comes to collect Ai, either by hook or crook, or even if she has to destroy a few of his friends, including Ai's brother, Zero. Meanwhile, Tokimitsu continues on his Akira bent, increasing his powers to such an extent that even ADC might not be able to control his megalomania!
As Psychic Academy begins to wind down to its final volume, the quality of the storytelling has not diminished at all. While some of the plot points are a little trite, such as when Mew tells Ai her feelings, only to be drowned out by the sound of machinery, so he doesn't hear what she says. Otherwise, the character's plights are emotion-evoking. The stakes in the series have risen considerably since the early installments and thereby the danger, but there is comfort in the fact that the students at the Academy see each other as family, whatever their egos say to the contrary. Good book. |
