5.0 out of 5 stars Get it While You Can
My brother received this game YEARS ago as a gift from a friend, and it gets harder and harder to locate as time goes by, so if you are considering this game, grab it while it is still available.

I have to disagree with the review that called this game boring. Since there is little review on the game plot, I will try to explain it here.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your Money
This is one of the Worst games ever. I would give it away for free. I am not kidding guys it is really really bad. The picture is distorted on newer tv's. The Characters/actors are just plain cheesy. My brother received this game YEARS ago as a gift from a friend, and it gets harder and harder to locate as time goes by, so if you are considering this game, grab it while it is still available.

I have to disagree with the review that called this game boring. Since there is little review on the game plot, I will try to explain it here.

At the start of the game you are hired by a mysterious woman to accompany her to a family gathering, a wake for her recently deceased father. There is a murder at the house where the gathering is taking place, and you are in the wrong place, at the wrong time, sometimes with blood on your hands.

The scenes are filmed by real actors, and unlike other video games that offer alternate endings, in this game everything you touch and everyone who's head you take a ride in changes the entire rest of the game.

During game play, bubbles pop up on the side of the screen. When you touch an object, you view traumatic events associated with that object. Some bubbles are the faces of people in close proximity to you, you can walk around watching what they see, hearing what they say, etc.

The point of the game is to find four mysterious objects, learn the psychological strengths and weaknesses of those involved and play one powerful psychic in a mental game called "Black Diamond". There are multiple endings to the game, and my siblings and I have played the game again and again and again in an effort to get them all.

I find that this game has maximum playability, there are so many different options. I wish more games were made of this quality, this much playing time, so many alternatives to gameplay and as much thought given to plotlines.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unique, one-of-a-kind Experience!, January 5, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Psychic Detective (Video Game)
This game is incredible that there is absolutly no game even close to it anywhere in the world. You get to jump into other people's heads & see through their eyes, where they go, who they see, meet & talk to. This gives you tons of optional paths which means you'll get to play a different game almost every time! Incredibly inventive! Sad to say thumbing through my video game magazine there's yet another of a zillion boring shooters on every other page. But Psychic Detective like so few other offers a real change of pace. If you enjoyed Zork, Tex Murphy, Phantasmagoria, Amber, Calahan's Saloon, Toonstruck & other cozy cuddly hot-chocolate type winter games, you'll love the unique experience of this amazing head-hopping detective adventure!

1.0 out of 5 stars Game with no gameplay, January 17, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Psychic Detective (Video Game)
More than a decade before the abominable crossbreed of Uwe Boll quality movie and a shooter started (see: Mass Effect, Alpha Protocol, Mass Effect 2) started polluting the RPG genre, a contamination of the similar scale happened to the Adventure game genre.

In 1995., EA published an "interactive" "adventure" called Psychic Detective. That game was definitely not an adventure and the interactivity was zero. The "gameplay" consisted of watching the movie and clicking on the "stance/attitude" icons, and based on your "choices" (which are almost completely uninformed) you would stir the plot of the game towards one of the multiple endings.

The following quote is very informative.

"Psychic Detective is an "interactive movie", or "boring-ass game"; pretty much one in the same. In it, you follow along as your psychic guide reads the minds of the weird, B-movie cast that roams around in a mansion, and later on the streets of Anytown, USA. The story involves several murders, some sort of bizarre mind-board game, and some statues that a Anton LaVey look-alike needs to...end depression? Yeah, this game makes little to no sense.

The game does boast five hours of footage to sluice through, if you're so inclined. There are a variety of endings to un-earth by viewing the action "psychically" through the eyes of the many minor characters you meet along the way. Essentially, when you collect a sufficient amount of dirt on a specific character, their icon will appear on the board of the "Black Diamond" board game that only psychics can play. Choose your pieces wisely, as you will usually be reduced to mental mush when you play against LaVey, which results in your character becoming a docile idiot who wears pajamas and licks the evil girl's feet. A fitting end for a stupid, un-likable character, I know, but not fitting enough for sifting through the horrible dialogue, weak gameplay, and listening to the insipid story unfold in all its grainy glory.

There is a reason they don't make 'em like this anymore. Not being able to really interact in any real sense of the word, rather watching a horrid movie from the perspective of your choice, is not enough to engage a gamer's interest these days. Granted, not much is needed to appeal to some of the more "lowest common denominator" gamers, but this game doesn't even pander to that demographic."

Here's the gameplay footage: [...]

This looks like a true founder of Mass Effect school of game design. A dumbed down game with no gameplay and horrible writing.
