5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put it Down!
After coming across this book in a used book store, I, like many of the other reviewers, couldn't put it down. This is the first book I've read by Lysa Mateu, and I look forward to reading her future works!

The information Lysa brought forth was amazing and comforting - and her style of writing is commendable - she makes you feel as if she's talking directly...

1.0 out of 5 stars Did I Read the Same Book?!?
Hey...can I get paid to write a rave review like everyone else here? Seriously, how does this work?

It's an okay book. It's more human than Conversations with the Spirit World and Poison Pen, but this is not groundbreaking literature, people. It's actually quite disjointed and self-serving.

I hope that everyone else reviewing here really did have the life-altering...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings At Best, December 29, 2003
This review is from: Psychic Diaries: Connecting with Who You Are, Why You're Here, and What Lies Beyond (Hardcover)
I have to admit to having mixed feelings about this book even though I am a big fan of Lysa Mateu. If you have been watching Lysa and reading her on-line diary then you will not need this book. This book is virtually only entries from her on-line diary, which I read long ago, combined with some stories from her first book tour. The stories about her psychic talents are great but there are few stories about that in the book. The book really is a self help book where Lysa constantly tries to convince the reader that everyone is great, wonderful, has a good soul, can do whatever they want... I've read this stuff in so many books and when you compare it to real life you know it's not true. There is good and evil in the world and not everyone is beautiful and wonderful. Unfortunately, I got bored halfway through the book but forced myself to finish so I can only give the book three stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sadly, a letdown., January 26, 2004
This review is from: Psychic Diaries: Connecting with Who You Are, Why You're Here, and What Lies Beyond (Hardcover)
"Psychic Diaries" provides a great narritive into the life and work of a psychic. It delves into personal details of what makes Lysa, which is interesting in itself. Sadly, this seems to be the bulk of the book.

As an avid reader of "Conversations with the Spirit World," I was expecting something along those lines. I was disapointed not to hear more of the spirits' voice in this work. It seemed that she pulled many of the same ideas from "Conversations..." and put them into this book -- failing to provide any new and exciting insights.

The personal narritive is a good idea, drawing her readers into her own life -- but it also makes it for difficult reading after 19 chapters. It makes it difficult to connect with the author. Her constant citations of her work in the Levy, along with the others cases, seemed on the edge of self-promotion, to me. Talking about her new TV show is the same. "Money and Spirituality" seemed out of place and an obscure topic. The personal stories at the end seemed tacked on.

It hurts me to write this, because I thought "Conversations..." was a stupendous book -- full of insight and new, bright ideas. I wish this book would've been more on those lines instead of her life story.

Maybe "Conversations..." was a hard act to follow.

1.0 out of 5 stars A True Mish-Mash, March 22, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Psychic Diaries: Connecting with Who You Are, Why You're Here, and What Lies Beyond (Hardcover)
I must agree w/ some of the previous reviewers in that this is a self-help book more than anything else. She jumps around rather than settling on one subject and dealing with in in depth. I certainly don't doubt Lysa's abilities, I just wish she were a bit more gracious about them. I was shocked at her inability to keep her negative feelings for Sylvia Browne from sounding so bitchy and catty. She and Sylvia pretty much agree on the majority of what they "teach" except for two major points: Sylvia says we write our scripts before we reincarnate (Lysa does not agree) and Sylvia's main point is always loving God first and foremost (Lysa dismisses God is a "gut feeling" that steers us in a certain direction along life's path).
And, lastly, perhaps she or her editors can jot down the difference between hanging (as in death) and hanging (as in pictures): people are hanged, pictures are hung. (Page 42: "Alexy, a twenty-one year old who hung himself" should read..."who hanged himself".) As long as we're paying good money for her books, we may as well expect decent editing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Confused----, February 22, 2004

This review is from: Psychic Diaries: Connecting with Who You Are, Why You're Here, and What Lies Beyond (Hardcover)
Reviewer: A reader from Chicago. Illinois
Since receiving signs from the other side, I have been reading a variety of books on the subject. In my search I read Ms. Mateu's "Conversations with the Spirit World" and was so impressed with the list of her 6 books, 7 audio tapes and a feature film available in 2001. Then, in her online diaries and all the advertising surrounding this book, she added having a television show connected to MTV. There were few others in this field that had produced such a large and varied volume of work. I mention this only because the author's major focus and stress in "Diaries" is on the "TRUTH" and accepting responsibility for who and where you are. I searched for the books and found only the 2 on mediumship and one on the years she spent working as tabloid reporter for the Star and the National Enquirer. I've never come across another author that listed works, either ones sitting in their mind or on a shelf, as being available. I could find no feature film connected to her name. The TV program, Breakthrough, turned out to be a pilot that wasn't picked up, though presented on radio/TV interviews and in print as a "done deal."
While I'm glad so many found the book a mind blowing, life altering, kick ass experience, mine however, will be forever colored by the feeling she doesn't practice what she preaches. The saddest part is that I do believe in her ability and feel that her experiences could have produced a thought provoking book. Maybe next time?

Although the book is aesthetically impressive, it left me wishing the same amount of attention had been spent on it's content. I found little new information that wasn't culled from her previous books--"Poison Pen...", "Conversations with the Spirit World, or her online diaries. (which have been removed). I expected the book to have the chronological flow of a diary, but, though there were some amazing stories, I found they were difficult to follow.

As for the self-help advice. Too much "Do" and not enough realistic "How to".

I feel Lysa could have provided much more depth and insight than could be absorbed and utilized in a "couldn't put down", "read in 24 hours", quick fix book.

I have been reading spiritual books for several years now - Spurred on by a major car accident that has left me in chronic pain - and this is definately one of my favorites!

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the "After-Life" &/or psychic phenomena. It is a wonderful read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid Book, Good Advice, But..., January 23, 2004
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Psychic Diaries: Connecting with Who You Are, Why You're Here, and What Lies Beyond (Hardcover)
Being a psychic/medium book connoisseur myself, I have read (probably too) many books on the market about the lives of famous psychics and what they have to say. In that vein, I think Lysa delivers a very solid story of her readings and how they've affected her life with a view of how to best live our own lives. Mission accomplished.

But...there's something ultimately unsatisfying by the end. For example, I was most moved by the five short, personal accounts conveyed at the very end of the book...the part that Lysa more edited than wrote herself. Also, the last 100 pages or so I felt like I kept reading the same sentence over and over again. Too much cheerleader...not enough connection. For these reasons, the book ultimately felt a bit unfocused and repetitive.

This is my first review here at Amazon and the only reason I wanted to voice my opinion is due to what seemed to be the strong slant to all the reviews so far posted (save one). All the rave reviews simply didn't jive with my own experience.

I wanted to drop a line to say how much I enjoyed this book!

My sister bought it for me for my birthday and quite honestly I couldn't put it down.  It had such a feeling of resounding truth - I loved it!

Lysa is definately changing the way people think and feel through her healing words and courage to stretch yourself on a daily basis.

Her freedom heals many. Her strength shines through!  Thank you, Lysa, for the truth.
