Book Description

March 2001
The Spirits Await...

Scratches are being carved into the dust-covered floor by some unseen force. The markings look like those of a giant bird. The boys stand in a phalanx, Adrian at the center. On his right stands Boylan, on his left, Welcome. They all watch the circles being carved into the floor. The second circle is finished. Another circle begins, concentric, one ring closer.

"There's nothing to be afraid of," says Adrian.
"Says who?" mutters Boylan. The sound comes again. They hear new scratches before they see new scratches being made in the floor. But they see them soon enough, coming toward them. The circle stops, is finished. There is silence. Their fear has given way to acceptance. Not one of them tries to move from the center of the circle. Not one of them has the strength. Welcome points with his hand.

"L-look."

Not a circle this time -- letters. Carved in the space between the third and fourth rings, one ragged letter at a time.

More About the Author

I came to writing the hard way. I ran out of other things to do. I'm working on Inspector of the Dead, a ghoulish tale about physics, metaphysics and bad science. Anyone who wants to contact me can find me at Boston College (ohar@bc.edu). Always good to get feedback, especially when readers think I've gone wrong. I'm also on Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/georgeohar

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational, October 3, 2004
This review is from: Psychic Fair (Paperback)
Devoured it; loved it. O'Har's story spans decades - indeed, centuries - and he has managed to create vivid, dialogue-driven characters in all time periods. This, I don't have to tell the avid reader, is no small feat. His narrative creates both fear and contemplation; in fact, just for kicks, he invented his own language (which made me think of Russell Hoban). At different times while reading, I was also reminded of Salinger, Fitzgerald, Harper Lee, and... surprisingly... Henry Adams. In all respects, the novel is a triumph, and potential consumers - and critics - are doing themselves a tremendous disservice if they don't carve out some time for themselves, pick up Psychic Fair, and give it a well-deserved read.

4.0 out of 5 stars good read, May 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Psychic Fair (Paperback)
This book was well written, good dialogue, the good characterization...I'd recommend it over a lot of other books that are out there--its also very compact, you don't feel that there is a lot of extraneous info, and the pace is well set...

3 stories woven strategically into one suspenseful tale. I found this book well-written, entertaining, and fast to read.
