BEWARE! This game does a lot of new things! It is <gasp> innovative! The premise of fighting in a cube with 3D movement is interesting, as well are the psychic abilities of the characters. Psychic Force dares to be different! The graphics are good, although nothing special. However, like mose innovaters, it has it's flaws. There is a steep learning curve,...

THE PREMISE, IS SOMEWHAT LIKE MARVEL COMIC'S X-MEN YOU GET TO PLAY AS ONE OF THE TEN PSYCHIC ENHANCED CHARACTERS, WHO ARE HATED AND FEARED BY MANKIND, DUE TO THIER EXTRODANARY PSYCHIC ABILITIES. THE CHARACTERS, ARE FOR THE MOST PART, HOVERING HIGH ABOVE THE AIR, DUELING IT OUT USING THEIR ABILITIES,PROJECTILES, SHIELDS, AND THE USUAL PUNCH & KICK COMBOS. THE CHARACTER DESIGNS ARE MORE OF ANIME FARE, AND ALTHOUGH THE GRAPHICS ARE NOT ON A PAR WITH NAMCO'S SOUL CALIBUR, IT ADDS DEPTH WITH BRILLIANT COLORS, THE GAMEPLAY IS MUCH CHALLENGING THAN SAY, POWER STONE AND MARVEL VS. CAPCOM. I HIGHLY RECOMAND THIS FOR FANS OF JAPANAMATION AS WELL AS FIGHTING AFFICIANADOS. IN A WORD; "brillant!"

Psychic Force dares to be different! The graphics are good, although nothing special. However, like mose innovaters, it has it's flaws. There is a steep learning curve, and moves are hard to perform consistantly. However, two experienced gamers can have an excellent time with this. This game is destined to cult success. You might want to try before you buy because this game is definitely not for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Psychic Force 2012, May 22, 2000

It's a surprise how even when an employee himself rated the game as horrible when I first got this game when I really enjoyed the game. All the characters hold their own personality which is a trademark in every game. Keith Evans is the 'cool' type while Setsuna is a cocky show-off who has a violent behavior. All the fighters have a power which fits them personally such as the gentle Patty who has the power of voice/tone, the hot-blooded Regina with fire, the soficicated water master known as Carlo or the manipulative Wong with the ability of time. The stage that the fighters fight in is called 'Kekkai' where the fighters actually create the stage on the spot. All the stages are held somewhere in the air except the infamous Noah HQ.

The game storyline is actually a continuation from the original Psychic Force that was released on Playstation, which was followed by horrible reviews. Anyhow psyichccers-people who can use psychic powers-were tested by the Army in hopes of creating the ulimate weapon. Psyichccers were exploited in grueling yet fatal tests. To end this horrible cycle, a young psyichccer named Keith Evans, rised from the rubble and decided to make a utopia for all psyichccers. He called the operation [ NOA ] which despite his original plans had conquered the world and all the humans. Keith's best friend, Burn Griffes, disagreed with NOA's actions and fights Keith, believing that humans and psychiccers can co-exist peacefully together. During their fight Richard Wong (who had joined Keith for personal ambitions) explodes NOA's HQ. Wong captures half of NOA to join his own psychic army. 2 years later, however, Keith stikes back with Neo-NOA (Resurrected NOA) while trying to have any free psychiccers as well.

I strongly believe this game is terrific for all those anime lovers out there, for the Japanese voices all come from famous roles (ie Might--Hikaru Midorikawa did Jap. role Fuushigi Yugi/Mysterious Play's Tamahome and Genshin--Hiroshi Ito does Jap. Kent Brookman from the Simpson's! ^^;). The provided translations as it did with Soul Calibur and King of Fighters Dreamatch are edited severely or are sometimes WAY off. The art is beautiful in between psychiccers' storyline's and the gameplay is unique for it is not the redundant 'Dragon-punch, double fireball, and then hurricane kick' joystick motions. The most complicated motion is the 'half circle' along with simple forward and back moves. Although the game does take time getting used to with it's 360's, at least it's something new to get your hands on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why doesn't the World see Psychic Force as it really is?!, June 20, 2001
This review is from: Psychic Force 2012 (Video Game)
People say that the graphics are poor, but in my (humble!)opinion, I don't know many better. The music held me captivated as soon as it snapped on, the anime style drawings at the start and ending(s) of the game are beyond words. Each character has an alternate ending and amazing moves. They also act in character with their psy(their powers).Keith has mastery over ice, so he has a cool, layed-back attitude. Burn controls fire, and is quite hot-headed(pardon the phrasing!)All in all, This is my top faveourite game to date!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all that great, December 18, 1999

= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Psychic Force 2012 (Video Game)
Psychic Force 2012 is an alright sort of fighting game. It advertises 360 degrees of motion.. well, that's not quite true. It's in a 3D arena, but you don't get control over where your character flies in/out of the screen, only on the up and down, left and right dimensions. Any Z-axis movement is done by the computer. This doesn't affect gameplay that much, but it smacks of bad advertising.

On to the game. The 3D anime characters are superbly done. Where Soul Calibur renders realistic people, these are so far the best 3D anime-type characters I have seen. Their movements are fluid, and you really do get a feel for an aerial anime fight - they watched anime cartoons closely to get the look and feel of an anime fight correct. The explosions, lighting, special moves are all done well.

However, I did say this was only an "alright" fighter. Sadly, it comes nowhere close to Soul Calibur, and fails in the light of Marvel Vs Capcom. It *IS* better than Mortal Kombat Gold, but then again, that's not saying much. It gets VERY hard by the 3rd round, with the computer AI being incredibly cheesey.

With practice, you can get through with no problem, but why bother? You'll be playing Soul Calibur in a few moments, because the controls are what let this game down. Where Namco's offering has intuitive controls, this one tries to mix Capcom's control style with something like Soul Calibur, and it doesn't work..

However, I give it 3 stars, because of it's price, which is pretty good for a Dreamcast game at this time.. and it's a game that some may enjoy.

One thing to notice: On the cover art, Regina's really low neckline has been PAINTED RED, instead of left as flesh-tone. I don't understand this; I can see worse on the subway in New York City, or on the beach in the summer. Ah well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun but slightly limited, February 14, 2000

= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

Previous reviews state false advertising because of the 360 degree movement, and the fact that you cant move into and out of the background. That is a truly ignorant comment because if you would notice that on a flat 2d plane there are 360 degrees. moving in all dimensions would actually be about 129600 degrees (360degrees * 360degrees). Also, while there may not be as many moves as other games, and the combo system is limited, you have to realize the strategy involved in the fighting system. You have to take advantage of other characters' flaws and time your projectiles. You have to lead characters with your projectiles and manage your psi. Limited moves are made up for with the strategic elements. However, some characters are overly cheap (Setsuna) which somewhat detract from the experience. All in all, this is a great game if you take the time to learn more about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG, so cool!!, November 26, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Psychic Force 2012 (Video Game)
this game is so cool, and i luv it! since i am a particually HUGE fan of anime and japanese (language), i had no problem listening/watching to the lil "movies" inbetween the rounds/fights. i luv all the characters and their moves; setsuna's moves are especially cool. if u like anime/fighting/and hard core graphics, you'll luv this game! i recommend u try it first before u buy it though, cause it won't appeal to everyone. the best moves are the hardest to perform, but sometimes u just gotta push any buttons and hope u get a move if you're in doubt/trouble ^-^ keep practicing and you'll become an expert at this game! (there are secret characters, some u get by doing certain things, so look in a code book or on the internet) i hope i helped!

3.0 out of 5 stars A little Perspective..., April 16, 2002
This review is from: Psychic Force 2012 (Video Game)
I really don't understand the high star rating this item has. I will say it is a fairly good game with limited appeal. It is not a 5 star, near perfect buy.
Psychic Force is the Anime version of SOul Caliber. Or that may be misleading. Soul Caliber is a classic style of fighting game and Psychic Force is its estranged brother. Instead of walking around the arena, you fly around. Instead of many close in attacks and a few distance attacks, you have at your command a mound of power attacks, beam attacks, and even a mine like ability for some. But this game fails in several key areas. One, it has little true move strategy. Its true that you still have to learn your moves to beat the game but not like Soul Caliber. Instead of hundreds of moves, you run an average of 20+. Also, the combat can become overly static, as when one becomes trapped and cannot easily escape. Being pounded into the wall repeatedly gets pretty old.
So in conclusion to my rushed and badly mispelled review, only buy this game... or your trying to collect the whole set. Otherwise, stick to Soul Caliber of Dead or Alive 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars Psychic force is only mediocre, December 16, 1999
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Psychic Force 2012 (Video Game)
While pshchic force is entertaining it is severly limited. There is only a small assortment of moves to chose from; guard, strong attack, light attack, and a small number of esp attacks from these. It has some good features, like the fact that the charactors are flying, but the screen is still flat and not 3 dimensional, but since your flying you can go to anyplace in the 2-d arena. Learning the basics, like recharging your psionic energy, and the shiled against psychic attacks are a must, making it difficult to learn. But unlike games like tekken their isn't a large move list. So while the basics are hard to learn, once you do learn them it is easy to master. Where as other more intuitive games like tekken the basics are easy, and you can survive by flailing away on the buttons, learning to master tekken on the other hand takes work for each charactor. So psychic force is good in the3 short term, but the entertainment doesn't last.
