More About the Author

Lu Ann Brobst Staheli is an accomplished educator and author.

When Hearts Conjoin, a biography of the Herrin family and their conjoined daughters, Kendra and Maliyah, came to Lu Ann through her association with New York Times Best-Selling author Richard Paul Evans.

"I was presenting at a conference that Rick was sponsoring for prospective authors when I heard Erin Herrin present her pitch for a book about her conjoined twins," Staheli says. "Of course, I had heard of the twins on the local news in Utah, and during the pitch, the thought came to me, 'I wish I could be the one to write that book.' A few months later, Rick and his publicist came to me and asked if I could write the story. It was kismet. I met Erin, and we clicked right away. Nine months later, we had a finished book."

Proceeds from When Hearts Conjoin go into a medical trust fund for Kendra and Maliyah.

Additional biographical projects continue to keep Lu Ann busy. She is currently finishing a book with mentalist Jim Karol, and has projects lined up with former Salt Lake City policeman Rob Joseph, singer David Osmond, and entertainer Alan Osmond, all likely for a 2010 release.

A popular columnist for the Spanish Fork Press and contributing writer for Desert Saints Magazine, Lu Ann's articles have also appeared in Grit, Byline, Scouting, Library Media Connections, and The Writer magazines. She has published invitational essays in Teaching Secondary Language Arts K-12: It Really Works (Christopher-Gordon Publishers) and Famous Family Nights (Cedar Fort International).

As a Senior Editor with Precision Editing Group, she has had a hand in a number of releases from Desert Book, Shadow Mountain, Covenant Communications, and other regional publishers, including several winners and finalists for the Whitney Award and New York Times best-sellers. A former Associate Producer of Alan Osmond's Stadium of Fire, Lu Ann wrote scripts for both the Provo, Utah, and Laramie, Wyoming, fireworks spectaculars.

Utah's Best of State Educator K-12, Utah English Language Arts Teacher of the Year, Nebo Reading Teacher of the Year, and Christa McAuliffe Fellow, Utah Valley League of Utah Writers Writer of the Year, Utah Arts Council Juvenile Novel Author of the Year, the League of Utah Writers Diamond Quill and Juvenile Novel Author of the Year, Lu Ann teaches English at Payson Jr. High in addition to being an author. She resides in Spanish Fork, Utah, with her husband and five sons.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Journey, May 23, 2010
By
This review is from: The Psychic Madman (Paperback)
Reading about Jim Karol's early years and his discovery of how powerful the mind (and HIS mind) is was downright fascinating. Following his journey from events like dreams that impacted him to how his goals of learning to use harness the power of his mind with everything from memorization to danger-defying acts was nothing short of amazing. The best part? He says that everyone has similar abilities and shows how readers can develop their own minds. Doubt I'll ever try the bear-trap thing, but I'm inspired to expand my own abilities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating!, May 19, 2010

Heather Moore (Lehi, Utah United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Psychic Madman (Paperback)
Psychic Madman is a fascinating insight into the "super" mind of Jim Karol. At the age of seven, Jim has a dream--the first of many. He starts to notice a pattern that the things he dreamed about eventually happened. At first he decides it's just a bizarre set of coincidences, but as he tracks the events he senses are about to happen, something amazing happens. He realizes he has psychic powers.

Jim spends the next years learning more about his gift and how to use it. Not only can he predict events, but he has an incredible ability to memorize numbers and dates. He also discovers he can do things naturally that magicians use secretive methods to perform.

An incredible journey that is fascinating at every turn.
