This is the book that introduced me to Arlene Nimark, for that alone I recommend it!-she is a brilliant astrologer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good directory but should have TESTED the psychics as well!
Althogh this is a good directory, the author didn't bother to let a period of time go by so she could report on whether or not the psychic's predictions ever actually came to pass! She merely describes their reading style and leaves it to the reader of the book to gamble on which psychic to go to.

Paula Roberts, Frank Andrews, and Alexander Mallon were all impressive...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great concept but mediocre evaluation of psychics, September 27, 2005
By
This review is from: Psychic New York: A Guide to Astrologers, Tarot Readers, Psychics, Palmists, & Numerologists (Paperback)
I was very excited when I first came across this book as I thought it would clarify which psychics are worth consulting. Unfortunately the author is rather vague and I find it rather appalling that there is no mention of accuracy whatsoever, which I assume is the primary focus of any would-be client.

After disappointments with Kim Allen (is she psychic??) and Clarke I thought to try Fahrusha as I had seen her listed in Hans Holzer's book also. The phone number was wrong as are several others in the book but found it through her website and when I managed to get an appointment a couple weeks later I was surprisingly pleased. Fahrusha has a down-to-earth approach to readings and answers specific questions with straight answers. Among other things she accurately predicted the outcome of a lawsuit I had at the time, that I was in urgent need of a dentist which would be costly, and that I would be vacationing in the far east within 3 months. She first gives you her impression and then reads the cards for further detail which is precise.

Although I feel very lucky to have found an accurate and amicable psychic I feel the book as a whole is rather incomprehensive as many famous New York psychics are not included and some of the information is outdated.

2.0 out of 5 stars I think that I will stick to recommendations from friends!, November 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Psychic New York: A Guide to Astrologers, Tarot Readers, Psychics, Palmists, & Numerologists (Paperback)
I left a review of this book earlier and wanted to add some more info for those who are considering going to any of the people mentioned in the book. Of the people I saw: Einstein, Clarke, Saulter, Karter, McInearney and Andrews, the only one that I can recommend with any confidence is Frank Andrews. I was most disappointed with the others above.

If you want details go to Frank Andrews, he, unlike the others, knows his stuff.

Although this is a good directory, it was ludicrous of the author to publish such a book without first waiting at least a year to see if any or all of the psychic's predictions have come true or even close. The author merely describes each person's style of reading, but offers the reader little or usually no feedback about how ACCURATE the reader was, which is crucial for people looking for a good, quality reading. Paula Roberts, Frank Andrews, Faith McInerney, and Alexander Mallon were the most impressive while Carloyn Clarke and Kathleen Karter were among the most dissappointing. One year later and these last two were wrong about everything.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best advice: Feel out your psychic..., December 12, 2004
This review is from: Psychic New York: A Guide to Astrologers, Tarot Readers, Psychics, Palmists, & Numerologists (Paperback)
I have read all of the reviews on this page and basically my assessment is that the overall sentiment ranges from "Very Pleased" to "Very Disappointed." I think all "seekers" must realize that if you start a reading with a pscyhic, palm reader, tarot card reader, etc. and you feel there isn't a match/click/spark in the very beginning, between you and the reader, you need to leave immediately! Because you will only end up with a disappointing reading. Just like going on a first date, or visiting a new doctor for the first time (even if you've already spoken to them on the phone and thought you made all the correct judgments before finally choosing), if there's no magic/chemistry in the beginning (first 5 mins), and you don't feel absolutely comfortable, end it and either come back another day or seek out another one... otherwise you will be even MORE upset, depressed, etc. after having shelled out the cash for a disappointing reading.

Sometimes other variables are at play. It can be the time of day, or the reader just wasn't 'into it' that day, or perhaps you are a challenge to read. To be honest, I haven't read the book, but I have visited a few psychics and been to a few conferences, and the BEST ADVICE I've ever received is that you need to FEEL OUT the psychic before plunging forth. Not all psychics are of the same calibre. Think of pscyhics as puzzle pieces and hopefully you both can snap together to form a beautiful image, which he/she would be able to describe to you, godwilling. I apologize for not writing this sooner for those whom have already had subpar experiences. I only wish I could have gotten to you sooner.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed so far, March 31, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Psychic New York: A Guide to Astrologers, Tarot Readers, Psychics, Palmists, & Numerologists (Paperback)
I have been to 3 people (papapetros, Purpora, & Van Dermeir so far and they were very disappointing, one of them could tell me nothing but kept pressing me for information instead. It was a complete deadend and I am not a skeptic. Others have been proved completely wrong now that all the time frame predictions are over.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book but was not happy with the psychics I chose!, March 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Psychic New York: A Guide to Astrologers, Tarot Readers, Psychics, Palmists, & Numerologists (Paperback)
This book is comprehensive if nothing else. It gives a nice overview of the different types of psychics out there -- from astrologers to palmists. The problem that I had was the psychics that I chose (all of whom were highly recommended by the author) were very disappointing in that they were vague and unspecific and in most cases way off the mark!. I had reading with Carolyn Clarke, Patricia Einstein and Kim Allen. I think that I will work on my own tarot card abilities in the future as it will be less expensive and disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Info!, September 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Psychic New York: A Guide to Astrologers, Tarot Readers, Psychics, Palmists, & Numerologists (Paperback)
This book changed my life. It was the first really complete listing I found on psychics out there, and how they were doing their job. I recognized a few of the famous ones (Frank Andrews, Michael Lutin from Vanity Fair, Madalyn Aslan, J.B. Brown) and saw many that I had never heard of before. Each one, and their methodology of reading, was described and commented on in detail, and I found this to be refreshing -- no advertising! I was merely curious at first, but a friend persuaded me to call a few and narrow it down to someone I'd feel comfortable seeing. I ended up going to two. Vastly different, but equally impressive. Felt the need to endorse this book as coming from a person who at first was merely curious and ended up being richly satisfied!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Information, September 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Psychic New York: A Guide to Astrologers, Tarot Readers, Psychics, Palmists, & Numerologists (Paperback)
I felt compelled to add my review after reading the above. This is an excellent book in terms of information, exact price, and detailed commentary on how the psychics conduct their readings. The listing includes a broad range, from the very well-known (Michael Lutin, Frank Andrews, Madalyn Aslan, Maria Papapetros) to the lesser known, some of which we found to be very good, (Laurie Baum, Patti Canova, Cassandra Saulter). Over the past two years, my husband and I and many of our friends have tried up to twelve of the psychics listed in the book. Without doubt, they were all better than anyone we'd gone to before, but not equally good to each other. Of course, this is not the author's fault. She herself advises to call first. But in terms of a comprehensive listing and description on the psychics currently successful in New York, I have found no better one published. Highly recommended.
